West Ham United have said goodbye to the Premier League.
The Hammers end a 14-year stay in England’s top-flight after their 18th-placed finish, missing out on safety by two points. It came despite a 3-0 win over Leeds United on the final day of the season, which proved to be too little, too late.
There are already rumours circling around the future of Nuno Espirito Santo, who failed to lead the Hammers to safety despite a few bright moments. But that is just the start.
West Ham have a number of players who will be in high demand this summer, with other clubs looking to secure good-value moves.
The West Ham players who could leave this summer
Mateus Fernandes
Mateus Fernandes is the most talked-about player when it comes to potential West Ham departures this summer. It was likely to happen even if West Ham stayed up. The 21-year-old can comfortably play as a No.6, No.8 or even No.10, operating at all heights and depths in midfield.
West Ham signed Fernandes from Southampton last summer, after the Saints’ own relegation to the Championship. He joined for an initial fee of £38million with £4m in add-ons, and signed a five-year deal.
Fernandes mostly played as a No.8 in more advanced areas for Southampton. But a move to a slightly deeper role for West Ham — particularly in the second half of the season — helped to showcase some of Fernandes’ best qualities.

His two best qualities are perfectly suited to the Premier League. Fernandes is so technically comfortable on the ball in all phases of play, to outplay his opponent under pressure through carries and clever passes. But he also has the bite and grit off the ball to win duels in the middle of the pitch. He was a key part of West Ham’s counterpress.
Fernandes was dropping between the West Ham centre-backs in the final months of the season, to improve their buildup. He acted as the orchestrator to progress play and bait pressure from the opposition, before finding solutions to play through the press and find advantages for his side.
As mentioned, clubs are already joining the queue for Fernandes. Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool are Premier League clubs reportedly ready to make a move. Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly interested in adding the 21-year-old to their ranks.

El Hadji Malick Diouf
El Hadji Malick Diouf was another new arrival for West tHam last summer, joining from Slavia Prague.
He was already being tracked by a number of top clubs prior to his move to West Ham. But he called the decision to join West Ham a good plan for him.

Diouf’s best qualities are showcased playing as a dynamic attacking full-back. He has the pace and power to arrive in dangerous areas, cause problems from defenders on the overlap and deliver devastating crosses on his left foot.
Plenty of Premier League teams are returning to the usage of flying full-backs. They allow their midfielders to orchestrate the buildup with the centre-backs, while the full-backs push on to hold the width and cause problems with dynamic movement to help their wing partner.
Diouf could be an option for a number of Premier League sides looking for this type of profile. Other teams outside England could also be interested, especially those who utilise wing-backs.
Jarrod Bowen
This is perhaps the one West Ham fans are most frightened will come. Captain Jarrod Bowen will be another star with plenty of interest from Premier League clubs this summer. Even without World Cup football this summer.
Liverpool have been touted as a potential destination for the 29-year-old, as a replacement for Mo Salah. But other clubs such as Everton and Newcastle could join the race for the England international.
Bowen scored 11 goals and provided 12 assists in 42 games across all competitions in the 2025-26 campaign. However, it was the first season since 2022-23 in which he failed to hit 10 Premier League goals (nine).

Bowen is a proven goal-scoring winger, with 65 goals in 231 Premier League appearances for West Ham. Now, for the fee Bowen would command irrespective of relegation, top six sides may steer clear. Liverpool are also looking at younger options across Europe.
Therefore, Bowen could end up at Newcastle or Everton, adding 10+ goals per season and a level of experience to improve their squads in the summer window.
Crysencio Summerville
Crysencio Summerville was another arrival in the summer of 2024, joining from Leeds for around £25m with a potential £9m in add-ons.
The 24-year-old’s first season at West Ham was hampered by a mixture of injuries and a failure to usurp Bowen and Mohammed Kudus on the wings. But his second campaign was far better, with seven goals and three assists in 34 games across all competitions.

Summerville has some good underlying metrics playing off the left for West Ham. He averaged 3.81 take-ons attempted per 90 minutes in the Premier League in 2025-26, with 1.86 completed. He also created 1.02 chances per 90, 0.15 of which were big chances.
As a creative wide player who can score goals and works hard off the ball, plenty of Premier League clubs could make a move for the 24-year-old who is a younger option from West Ham compared to Bowen. Other clubs across Europe could also make a move, with Roma one name interested in the winger.
