Why is Aston Villa vs Tottenham kicking-off at 7pm on Sunday?

With a blockbuster Bank Holiday weekend of football ahead, there’s the added bonus of a rare Premier League kick-off at 7pm on Sunday night.

The fixture sees Champions League hopefuls Aston Villa take on a Tottenham side battling the dreaded drop, in a clash with major implications at both ends of the table.

Why is Aston Villa vs Tottenham kicking-off at 7pm on Sunday?

Aston Villa take on Tottenham at Villa Park at the unusual time of 7pm on Sunday 3rd May. It’s one of three Premier League matches that day, following Bournemouth vs Crystal Palace (2pm) and Manchester United vs Liverpool (3.30pm).

The match has been moved from its original Saturday 12.30pm TV slot on TNT Sports due to Aston Villa’s involvement in the Europa League semi-finals against Nottingham Forest. With the first-leg taking place this Thursday night at the City Ground, the quick turnaround makes Saturday’s initial 12.30pm kick-off impractical as the game must not be played earlier than Sunday afternoon, hence the switch to Sunday at 7pm, which is a rarely used free slot for TV games.

Is Aston Villa vs Tottenham on TV?

TNT Sports 1 and HBO Max will be broadcasting Aston Villa vs Tottenham on Sunday night. Coverage starts at 6pm, with kick-off at 7pm.

What’s at stake?

As it stands, Aston Villa go into gameweek 35 sitting 5th, level on points with 4th-placed Liverpool, three behind Manchester United in 3rd, and eight clear of Brighton in 6th. Bournemouth (49 points), along with Chelsea, Brentford and Fulham (all on 48), are all in pursuit of the top-5.

With a top-5 finish enough to secure Champions League qualification, Villa still have work to do. Winning the Europa League would guarantee a place, but they’ll be keen to secure it through their league position as a safety net.

Tottenham ended their long wait for a league win in 2026 with a narrow 1-0 victory away to Wolves last weekend. It was their first win since 28th December 2025. With West Ham in action away to Brentford on Saturday, Spurs could head into their game five points adrift of both the Hammers and Nottingham Forest, who themselves don’t play until Monday (Chelsea away).

What are the odds saying?

Aston Villa have been installed as the 6/5 favourites for the win with bet365 as they bid to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat to Fulham last weekend.

Villa have won both meetings this season, securing 2-1 wins away to Tottenham in both the Premier League and FA Cup.

Tottenham are priced at 21/10 to claim back-to-back top-flight wins for the first time since August.

Meanwhile, a draw can be backed at 13/5.
