League Two Gameweek 40 tips
We’ve been crunching the numbers ahead of the League Two action this weekend and come up with two singles that could see profit this weekend as well as an accumulator that we think stands a good chance of coming in.
Cambridge United come into this weekend on the back of a tremendous run of form that has thrust them into the League Two automatic promotion picture.
The U’s have lost just one of their last 24 games in League Two, pushing them to third in the table, wining 14 of those games. Their most impressive stat this season comes from their defence, where they’ve conceded just 28 goals in 38 games and they’ve kept four clean sheets in their last six games.
Inconsistency has been the scourge of Barnet this season, with the club failing to win three games in a row at any point this season. This has left them midtable and struggling to push on for a playoff berth. The Bees have particularly struggled at home this season, with only 45% of their points tally coming at The Hive.
It took a while for them to get going this season but MK Dons have hit form in the second half of the campaign, losing just one of their last 15 games in the league.
The play of Aaron Collins has been pivotal to this, with the Welsh striker finding the net eight times this season. There’s been increased pressure on him to grab the goals with an injury to Callum Paterson and he’s stepped up with vital goals against Newport County, Cambridge United and Harrogate Town in recent weeks. His price of 11/4 to find the net this weekend has an implied probability of 26.7% and we think that represents a little bit of value for a man who should lead the line for a team that has scored a league high 76 goals this season.
Three potential winners in League Two this weekend
Chesterfield
Chesterfield sit just outside the playoff places, sitting behind Grimsby Town on goal difference. This weekend they take on Cheltenham Town, a club with just one win in five games and without much to play for over the rest of the season. A victory for the Spireites could see them finally push into the playoff places after weeks to threatening to establish themselves in the top seven.
While a loss for Grimsby is by no means assured, with the Mariners taking on second-bottom Harrogate Town, the other sides chasing the playoff positions all face tough games and could well drop points. That could give Chesterfield a huge boost in their pursuit of promotion.
Tranmere Rovers
Tranmere have a good opportunity to enhance their chances of avoiding the drop this season without even setting foot on the field. The teams around them all have games to play this weekend and any dropped points from the teams below them would give the Rovers a chance to separate themselves further from the relegation zone if they win their game in hand.
There can’t be a perfect scenario for Tranmere this weekend, with Shrewsbury currently five points above them taking on Newport County, who are five points behind Rovers. But if the likes of Crawley, Harrogate and Barrow fail to win then Tranmere’s position will be strengthened.
Michael Cheek
Cheek is currently second in the scoring charts in League Two, four goals behind Swindon’s Aaron Drinan, but this weekend gives him a real chance to close that gap. The Ravens take on bottom-side Barrow, who have conceded 12 times in their last five games and Cheek will be primed to get himself on the scoresheet, with Swindon, and Drinan, facing a tougher task of Fleetwood Town, who have kept two clean sheets in their last three games.

Three potential losers in League Two this weekend
Crewe Alexandra
Crewe are one of the sides that are chasing the playoffs, currently sitting two points outside the top seven. This weekend they take on the league’s form side in Oldham, who are on a run of five wins in a row and 10 unbeaten, and if they drop points it could prove disastrous. Three points for Oldham would lift them four points clear of the Alex and, if Chesterfield and Grimsby both win, they could be five points off the playoff places.
With things being so tight, and just a handful of games left in the season, that gap could prove to be too big for Crewe to overturn.
Barnet
Barnet have been an odd team this season, winning plaudits for their passing football and taking key wins against Walsall, Chesterfield and MK Dons but struggling against the likes of Newport and Crawley. This weekend sees the in-form Cambridge United arrive at the Hive and the Bees know that a loss here would all but end their burgeoning playoff hopes.
Barnet are currently five points off the playoffs, a difference that could extend to eight points by the end of the weekend if things don’t go there way, and there is a feeling amongst Barnet fans that this fixture is do or die for their hopes of League One football next season.
Colin Kazim-Richards
Crawley Town have endured a torrid time this season and currently sit 21st, just one point above the relegation zone. They decided to make their move and end the tenure of Rob Elliot last week, hoping a change in manager would change their fortunes. The man they’ve turned to is 39-year-old, Colin Kazim-Richards, a man who has been coaching at Arsenal at youth level recently, but has no experience in charge of a club.
It’s a real risk from the Red Devils and one that could end up costing them their place in the league. Get off to a winning start and Kazim-Richards could ride that momentum to safety but a loss could see Crawley continue their poor form and drift closer to National League football next season.
