Best Bets & Predictions
| Our Prediction | Odds & Bookmaker | Confidence | Why We’re Backing It |
|---|---|---|---|
| Both Teams to Score – Yes | 5/6 @ Betfair (54.5%) | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | The result looks a little tricky to predict here. Sunderland have been much better at home than on the road this season with just two wins away from the Stadium of Light. The Hammers haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their 17 Premier League games under Nuno Espírito Santo, but did end their winless run with victory over Spurs last time out. West Ham have seen 64% of their home matches feature both teams scoring and at 5/6 it looks the wise play on Saturday. |
| Jarrod Bowen to be carded | 11/1 @ Sky Bet (8.3%) | ⭐⭐⭐ | This is a huge game for West Ham, and they need to be looking at picking up at least a point. I expect a bit of fight from the hosts, and at 11/1, Jarrod Bowen looks a massive price to be carded. The 29-year-old has been booked in three of his last six outings, and there could be a much bigger chance of another here than the 8.3% chance that the odds of 11/1 imply. |

How both teams go into West Ham vs Sunderland
Just days after appearing close to the exit door, Callum Wilson delivered a dramatic turnaround by scoring a last minute winner as West Ham beat Tottenham 2 1 in a London derby. His goal capped a thrilling contest that saw Crysencio Summerville give the Irons the lead via a deflection before Cristian Romero levelled for Spurs, sending the travelling supporters into raptures at full time.
The win was West Ham’s first in the Premier League since early November and, while it did not lift them out of the bottom three, it did cut the gap to safety to five points. An FA Cup victory over QPR has also lifted spirits, but momentum may be hard to sustain. Defensive issues remain a major concern, with the Irons now 19 league games without a clean sheet, most of them coming under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Sunderland are also chasing three straight wins in all competitions after finally opening their Premier League account for 2026 with a 2 1 victory over Crystal Palace on January 17. Enzo Le Fee and Brian Brobbey turned the game around after Yeremy Pino’s early goal, adding to the feel good mood created by an FA Cup win over Everton on penalties the week before.
That league success keeps Regis Le Bris’s side comfortably in the top half of the table and within three points of the Champions League places. Away form remains a concern, however, with no wins in their last six league trips and a lack of goals on the road. Even so, Sunderland will take confidence from a 3 0 win over West Ham on the opening weekend and now have a chance to complete their first league double over the Hammers since the 2010 11 season.
West Ham team news
Lucas Paqueta could return on Saturday. Lukas Fabianski remains unavailable through injury.
Sunderland team news
Habib Diarra and Chemsdine Talbi are available after returning from the AFFCON. Bertrand Traore and Arthur Masuaku are confirmed absentees for the visitors.

Conclusion: Can West Ham End Their Defensive Slump?
The result looks a little tricky to predict here. Instead two bets have caught our eye, with the first being BTTS at 5/6. For those looking for something bigger, Jarrod Bowen to be carded stands out at a massive 11/1.
