What happened when Peter Bankes last refereed Chelsea?
On top of the defeat to Man Utd, Bankes also refereed Chelsea’s win over Burnley. And he had some decisions to make. Bankes opted not to penalise Trevoh Chalobah for deliberate handball in the box, as the Chelsea man stopped the ball with his hands — claiming to be preparing to take a goal kick. Replays showed that Robert Sanchez had passed the ball to Chalobah, potential starting play, but Bankes decided not to have the headache of awarding a penalty. And the decision was backed up by VAR.

He also allows just 5.2 fouls per card so far, not letting too much slide — though he is by no means the harshest referee there.
