
The countdown is on to see who will be crowned the 2025 Sports Personality of the Year at tonight’s ceremony.
Six sports stars go head-to-head to win the coveted award, which was won by 800m sensation Keely Hodgkinson last year.

When is Sports Personality of the Year 2025?
The 72nd edition of the Sports Personality of the Year will begin at 7pm tonight (Thursday 18th December) and runs for two hours until 9pm.
Where is Sports Personality of the Year 2025?
The ceremony will be broadcast live from MediaCity in Salford, where it’s been held since 2020.
How to watch Sports Personality of the Year 2025
The ceremony will be available to watch on BBC One from 7pm to 9pm. You can also watch via BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app (UK only).
Who will present this year’s SPOTY 2025 show?
The ceremony will be hosted by Gabby Logan, Clare Balding, and Alex Scott for the second year in a row.
Sports Personality of the Year 2025 nominees
The six nominees for the 2025 gong are as follows:
- Rory McIlroy (Golf): Completed the career grand slam in style by finally sliding on the iconic Green Jacket at the Masters, played an instrumental role in Europe’s Ryder Cup success, and scooped a seventh Race to Dubai title.
- Hannah Hampton (Football): Played an integral part in between the sticks during England’s Euro 2025 win and she saved two penalties in the final. Won the domestic treble with Chelsea and was crowned the inaugural winner of the Women’s Yashin Trophy at the Ballon d’Or.
- Chloe Kelly (Football): Fellow Lioness Chloe Kelly was England’s super sub during the Euros triumph, changing the landscape of matches off the bench, and scored the winning spot-kick in the final. At club level she helped Arsenal win the Champions League.
- Ellie Kildunne (Rugby union): Played a pivotal role in England’s Rugby World Cup success, which included scoring a stunning try in the final. Also won the Grand Slam in the Six Nations.
- Luke Littler (Darts): The young superstar won the World Darts Championship aged just 17 and went on to win numerous other tournaments and became World No.1. Currently bidding to defend his crown at the WDC.
- Lando Norris (F1): Won the drivers’ championship in the final race of the season. Won seven races along the way, including Monaco and the British Grand Prix.
How to vote for your Sports Personality of the Year 2025
Voting for this year’s Sports Personality of the Year is online only. To cast your vote, you need to register or sign in at bbc.co.uk/spoty.
When the show kicks off at 7pm tonight, you’ll be able to vote online, with full voting instructions revealed during the broadcast.
Note that you can only vote once and online voting is only available to those in the UK.
