Arsenal are currently unstoppable.
A 2-0 win over Burnley on Saturday means the Gunners hold a six-point lead at the top of the table. In all competitions they’re now unbeaten in 12 and have won their last nine.
In this article, we’ll cover:
Mikel Arteta’s side made history recently. Indeed, they became the first team to go through a month and win all six games while keeping a clean sheet in all six matches. In their march to silverware, they have conceded just three league goals.
Raya chasing Arsenal history
A shut out at Turf Moor means David Raya has kept seven successive clean sheets, matching the feat achieved by Arsenal in 1987 and 1999. Eight is the record for the Gunners, and one that has stood since 1903. Tuesday’s meeting for Slavia Prague could see Raya match that return.
However, while Arsenal’s defensive resolve has come in for deserved praise, four successive Premier League clean sheets isn’t even their best haul in England’s top tier. The Gunners managed eight successive shut outs in the 1997/98 season with Arsene Wenger at the helm. It was matched by Liverpool in the 2005/06 campaign.

Chelsea still hold onto second spot with 10 consecutive clean sheets in 2004/05 season. It was the season they eased to the title having conceded just 15 league goals. Kudos to Petr Cech. Arsenal, though, are currently shipping fewer goals per game (0.3) than the Blues managed that campaign (0.39).
Who holds the record for successive clean sheets?
It’s Manchester United, and Edwin van der Sar, who hold the Premier League record, however, having kept a whopping 14 successive clean sheets in the 2008/09 season. The Red Devils and Chelsea are the only two sides to have managed double figures for consecutive clean sheets in a Premier League season.
While the Premier League has never been more competitive, Arsenal should feel confident about going close to matching the feat.
Arteta’s men take on Sunderland, Tottenham, Chelsea, Brentford, Aston Villa and Wolves in their next six league games as they look to go level with Blues. Further clean sheets Everton, Brighton, Villa and Bournemouth across the festive period would see Arsenal match United’s record of 14 successive Premier League clean sheets. They could set the record against Liverpool at the Emirates.
There’s a long way to go yet, and the priority will be to claim all the spoils in Prague on Tuesday night. However, Arsenal are conceding the fewest shots per 90 (7.5) and have shipped just three times. It’s certainly doable…
