Tottenham Hotspur made history as the first-ever away team to win at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday, beating Everton 3-0.
The first half was a tale of three corners, with Micky van de Ven converting two of them to fire Spurs into a commanding lead. Those strikes came either side of a Jake O’Brien header via the same route, but his goal was disallowed due to Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish being offside and interfering with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
That left Everton with a massive mountain to climb, and after some heroics from Vicario in the second half, Spurs killed the game late through Pape Sarr.
The result sees Spurs climb to third in the Premier League table, just five points behind leaders and arch-rivals Arsenal. Everton, meanwhile, are 14th but still only five points off the top five.

Everton player ratings
Jordan Pickford: 38%
Far too weak on Tottenham’s second goal, allowing Van de Ven to outmuscle him with ease. Helpless for the other two goals, and made just one save.
Jake O’Brien: 57%
Unlucky to be denied a goal with two of his teammates in offside positions. How different the game could’ve been if that had stood. Was the least of Everton’s defensive problems.
James Tarkowski: 66%
Lost sight of Van de Ven on Tottenham’s second goal. Was kept busy all afternoon, making three clearances, two interceptions, and one tackle, while winning five of his six duels.
Key stats:
- Aerial duels won: 4/5
- Clearances: 3
- Interceptions: 2
- Passes completed: 52
- Passes into final third: 11
Michael Keane: 63%
Could’ve attacked the ball better for Van de Ven’s second goal to help out his centre-back partner and goalkeeper. Dragged out of position on the third goal as well, though he did make a last-man tackle and won all six of his duels.
Vitalii Mykolenko: 55%
Did Keane no favours on the third goal, practically giving up trying to get back as he ran out of steam. Sloppy on the ball and struggled to cope with Brennan Johnson, being dribbled past twice and only winning two of his nine duels.
James Garner: 62%
Certainly one of Everton’s better performers on the day, getting around the pitch to put in a match-high six tackles, while trying to add quality on the ball with a 96% pass completion rate and one chance created.
Idrissa Gana Gueye: 55%
Won plenty of fouls and got through a lot of defensive work as he always does. Tidy with the ball, but didn’t do anything overly impressive with it.
Iliman Ndiaye: 65%
Kept trying to make things happen, completing a match-high four of his seven dribbles, while he was denied by Vicario in the 73rd minute. Just didn’t get enough clear openings.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall: 61%
Created a couple of decent openings and showed more inventiveness than most in a blue shirt, though he was guilty of running down a few blind alleys. Lost all three of his dribbles.
Jack Grealish: 65%
Created a match-high three chances, but to the tune of just 0.09 xA. Showed flashes of quality but didn’t get hold of the game.
Beto: 52%
Continues to be utterly wasteful, missing a close-range header in the 54th minute worth 0.56 xG. Did, at least, create one big chance.
Merlin Rohl: 49%
Shanked a free header over the bar deep into the second half. Showed a few glimpses of quality on the ball.
Thierno Barry: 47%
Looked bright for a short while when he first came on, but once again faded quickly out of the match.

Tottenham Hotspur player ratings
Guglielmo Vicario: 76%
Made two fantastic saves to preserve his clean sheet and keep Everton at bay while the score was still only 2-0. Was he a little weak on the Everton disallowed goal? He probably got away with one, but then, Ndiaye and Grealish were undoubtedly offside.
Key stats:
- Saves: 2
- Goals prevented: 0.95
- High claims: 1
- Punches: 2
- Long passes completed: 4
Pedro Porro: 68%
Provided the assist for Van de Ven’s second goal, which was just one contribution of many in an excellent performance on both sides of the ball. The only criticism was that he let Grealish get past him a couple of times.
Kevin Danso: 67%
Gobbled up absolutely everything thrown at him, making a whopping 18 clearances, while winning all six of his combined ground and aerial duels. One of his best performances yet in a Tottenham shirt.
Micky van de Ven: 67%
Was just as solid as Danso, but backed that up with two goals in a truly match-winning performance. Alongside his goals, Van de Ven completed a match-high 61 passes, while making seven clearances and being dribbled past just once.
Djed Spence: 56%
A relatively quiet afternoon, but then, Spence wasn’t really tested. Cleared the ball when needed, got stuck in when required. Just got the job done.
Joao Palhinha: 64%
A ball-winning monster in front of the defence. Four tackles, four clearances, one interception, one block and four recoveries. Monstrous numbers.
Rodrigo Bentancur: 64%
Much better on the ball from Bentancur, who has been criticised for his negative passing at times this season. Headed the ball back across for Van de Ven’s first goal to claim the assist.
Mohammed Kudus: 58%
Quiet from open play and lost a match-high 12 duels, but more than did the damage with an excellent corner on the first goal.
Xavi Simons: 58%
Still not clicking in a Tottenham shirt. Failed to create a chance or attempt a shot, while he was unsuccessful with both his attempted dribbles.
Brennan Johnson: 60%
Didn’t get too involved in the attack, also failing to create a chance or attempt a shot. However, he covered Porro brilliantly with three tackles, an interception and four clearances.
Randal Kolo Muani: 45%
Battled hard and did well holding the ball up to give Spurs a platform, without giving Everton too much to think about around the penalty area.
Lucas Bergvall: 65%
Helped get the job done from the bench with some classy passes and a couple of tackles.
Richarlison: 58%
Probably should’ve scored just after coming on, while he also showed great awareness to square the ball to Sarr with his head on the third goal. Made a great impact from the bench.
Pape Sarr: 68%
Only had seven touches of the ball, but one of them killed the game with a goal.
