David Moyes’ Anfield misery continues
- David Moyes has failed to win any of his 21 Premier League games at Anfield.
Liverpool extended their winning start to the season to five games after they beat neighbours Everton 2-1, which also meant they’ve now claimed five straight wins at home to Everton for the first time in 88 years.
As for poor Everton boss, David Moyes, his wretched winless run at Anfield goes on after it was extended to 21 matches – a new record for the most matches a manager has failed to win at a single stadium. Of those 21 games, a whopping 15 have ended in defeat.
Mikel Arteta is a thorn in Pep’s side
- Mikel Arteta is the first-ever manager to go five consecutive league games unbeaten against Pep Guardiola.
Arsenal and Man City played out a 1-1 draw at the Emirates after the hosts scored a dramatic injury-time equaliser, meaning Mikel Arteta is now the only manager to have ever gone unbeaten in five consecutive matches against Pep Guardiola.
Not only that, Man City’s 32.% possession was the lowest in history from a Pep Guardiola side.
Goals, cards & sub frenzy at Old Trafford
- Man United’s win over Chelsea is the first match in Premier League history to see 2+ goals, 2+ red cards, and 2+ substitutions in the first half.
Saturday’s late kick-off between Manchester United and Chelsea delivered a whirlwind of drama at Old Trafford, with the first half alone producing 2+ goals, 2+ red cards, and 2+ substitutions.
The chaos began just five minutes in when Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was shown a straight red card. The visitors reacted by making two immediate changes, but United quickly capitalised on the advantage as they took the lead through captain Bruno Fernandes in the 14th minute, before Casemiro doubled the advantage in the 37th minute… only for the Brazilian to receive his marching orders in first-half stoppage time to cap off a frenetic opening 45 minutes.
Stach attack
- Anton Stach becomes the first Leeds player to score a direct free-kick in the Premier League since 2021.
Leeds produced one of the performances of the weekend after they recovered from going a goal down in the 8th minute at Molineux to score three first-half goals and ultimately claim a deserved 3-1 win to move them up to 12th.
Anton Stach, in particular, had a cracking game with a goal and an assist for the visitors, including a superb free-kick to give his side a 2-1 lead. In the process, he became the first Leeds player to score a direct free-kick in the Premier League since Raphinha back in 2021.
Big Six’s bogey team
- Brighton are unbeaten in their last eight straight league home games against the ‘Big Six’.
Brighton and Tottenham played out an entertaining 2-2 draw on the south coast but, while the Seagulls will be disappointed after they failed to hold onto a 2-0 lead, the point means they are now unbeaten in eight consecutive home games against the ‘Big Six’ stretching back to the start of last season.
Brighton have won six of those games, including a 2-1 win against Man City earlier this season.
Crystal Palace’s impressive run continues
- Crystal Palace extend unbeaten run to 17 matches
Crystal Palace piled more misery on Graham Potter at West Ham after they came away from the London Stadium with a 2-1 win.
The result soared the Eagles up to 5th — within one point of the top four — and extended their superb unbeaten run to 17 matches in all competitions (W7 D10), which is the club’s joint longest run of games without losing in their history.
Palace are now one match away from equalling their record 18-game undefeated run, set back in 1969.
Eddie Howe’s ex frustration
- Eddie Howe is now winless in his last seven Premier League games against former club Bournemouth.
The weekend’s only goalless draw came in the clash between Bournemouth and Newcastle, which was the latter’s third 0-0 in three away games this season.
Bournemouth have become a real bogey team for their former boss Eddie Howe who has now failed to win any of his seven Premier League games against his ex employers.
Five of these games have been draws, along with two defeats.
Ange Postecoglou’s longest winless drought
- Ange Postecoglou has failed to win in nine straight league games for the first time in his managerial career.
Ange Postecoglou is still searching for his first win as Nottingham Forest boss after a frustrating 1-1 draw away at Burnley.
The Aussie is now winless in his first two league games – and three in all competitions – in charge of the Tricky Trees. If you factor in the tail end of his Tottenham tenure, that rotten run stretches to nine league matches without a victory, seven of which have ended in defeat, which marks the longest winless league streak of Postecoglou’s managerial career.
Bees sting themselves again
- Since the beginning of last season, no Premier League team has conceded more own goals than Brentford.
Brentford went down 3-1 to London rivals Fulham, which leaves them one point and one place above the relegation zone.
Unfortunately for the Bees, they have developed an unwanted habit of scoring in the wrong net, with Ethan Pinnock’s own-goal the club’s fourth own-goal in the league since the start of last season.
Isidor’s home comforts
- Wilson Isidor becomes the first player since 2019/20 to score in his first three Premier League home games.
Sunderland have enjoyed an impressive start to their return to the Premier League, accumulating eight points from their opening five games.
Sunderland displayed grit and determination in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa, despite going down to ten men after Reinildo was sent off just after the half-hour mark. Villa capitalised in the 67th minute to take the lead, but Wilson Isidor hit back with an equaliser just eight minutes later.
That strike saw Isidor become the first player to score in each of his first three Premier League home appearances since Steven Bergwijn did so for Tottenham in the 2019/20 season.
