Everton vs Aston Villa prediction, stats, tips & team news

Everton will be looking to build on their positive start to the season when they host Aston Villa at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday 13th September at 3pm.

The Toffees have taken six points from their opening three games to sit fifth after an impressive start to the Premier League season. Villa, meanwhile, are down in 19th with just one point highlighting their difficult beginnings to the new campaign.

Under 0.5 Aston Villa goals (2/1 with Betway)

Aston Villa are yet to score in the Premier League this season, blanking in their three matches so far. The Villains have been misfiring in front of goal but their xG suggests they should have two more goals than they’ve actually scored. It’s a problem that Unai Emery will have to solve but this weekend doesn’t look promising with Everton conceding just three times and giving away just 5.72 in expected goals.

Ollie Watkins to have over 2.5 shots (1/1 with Betway)

Ollie Watkins has had eight shots in the Premier League this season, with at least three in each of his past two. Finding the net has been the problem for Watkins but he’s certainly not struggled to get on the end of chances so far this season. Everton have conceded 46 shots so far this campaign, an average of 15.33 per games, which will certainly be encouraging for Watkins as he looks to end his mini goal drought.

How both teams go into Everton vs Aston Villa

There may have been fears that Everton would struggle after they opened the new season with defeat away to Leeds United. But they have bounced back well, winning each of their past two matches. David Moyes’ men got their first ever victory at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium in beating Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0. They went into the international break off the back of an away win, beating Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

Aston Villa have not started the season well. They opened the campaign with a goalless draw against Newcastle United, a game in which both sides struggled to forge clear cut chances. And that’s a problem that has followed Villa. The Villans have lost their past two league matches, beaten by Brentford and Crystal Palace. Both matches saw Aston Villa fail to score.

Everton team news

Everton will be hoping to have Jarrad Branthwaite, Nathan Patterson and Adam Aznou available for selection after the international break. All three stand a chance of playing some part in this game, with David Moyes confident on the fitness of all three players.

Aston Villa team news

Ross Barkley, Amadou Onana and Boubacar Kamara could all be in contention to return after the break, with all three continuing their returns from injury. There are some doubts over Matty Cash, who picked up an injury on international duty for Poland. Andres Garcia may need to wait a little longer before he returns.

Everton vs Aston Villa head-to-head

Aston Villa are unbeaten in their past 12 league games against Everton, winning nine. But Everton did get a win in the Carabao Cup two years ago. This game has tended to lean towards Aston Villa in recent years, with the Villains scoring nine goals in five matches compared to Everton’s four.
