The future of Southampton phenom Tyler Dibling remains a hot topic of discussion. Speculation is mounting surrounding his next move as interest in the young talent gathers momentum.
Dibling remarkably made his debut for Southampton’s Under-21s side aged just 15, and his senior bow came two years later. Last season, Dibling scored four goals and provided three assists in 38 appearances across all competitions. It may seem logical that he wouldn’t want to go back to the second tier following Southampton’s relegation. But there’s every chance he might want to do just that.
The tyro is comfortable at Southampton, having already experienced an unsuccessful spell at Chelsea. And with significant room still to grow, there are compelling reasons for Dibling to stay and continue his development in a familiar setting.
However, Dibling may also feel ready for the challenge of giving it another go at a more high-profile club — which adds an extra layer of intrigue regarding where he’ll be playing in 2025-26.
Granted, Southampton initially placed a £100million price tag on their teenage sensation. But that valuation has reportedly dropped to around £45-65m after their relegation. Naturally, this has piqued the interest of many heavy hitters across Europe. With links to Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, RB Leipzig, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United and Manchester United, Dibling’s future remains wide open.
The big question is, where will he end up?
Dream: Liverpool
Dibling isn’t a bona fide, elite-level operator yet. But his dribbling and ball-carrying abilities are genuinely world class. And his skillset and tactical fit would make him an intriguing option for Arne Slot’s dynamic, interchangeable Liverpool attack — as he’s a player capable of playing centrally and out wide.
The teenager would present a smart investment and a versatile option for now and the future.
Dibling is most at home of the right, so would crucially provide ideal cover for Mo Salah, which will be key with the Africa Cup of Nations taking place in December. He’s also complement the likes of not just Salah, but also Florian Wirtz, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo.
Dibling is a tormentor and bullies defenders on the dribble, powerful, imposing, confident and strong. He’s a serious force to be reckoned with and could unquestionably be a handy capture to boost Liverpool’s attacking depth.
Realistic: West Ham
West Ham have strengthened one of their London rivals this summer, with Mohammed Kudus switching the London Stadium for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. So the Hammers find themselves in need of a creative spark to fill the void. Dibling could definitely be the answer for Graham Potter.
Giving Dibling’s earlier attempt of switching to an upper echelon side failed at Chelsea, joining West Ham could be the perfect next step in his career. Potter has proven his effectiveness at improving youngsters, and Dibling is likely to get regular minutes at the London Stadium. All this enhances what a solid transfer this would be for both parties.
“He can do things that not many other players I’ve ever seen can do, and I love working with him,” former Southampton boss Russell Martin said of Dibling.
“I love watching him play. I’d pay a lot of money to watch him play football.
“He is a beautiful footballer, a really outstanding talent. He’s powerful. He possesses stuff that not every player possesses. He’s such a calm and confident boy in the nicest way. As long as he maintains his sense of self, his character and his personality – and that’s up to us to help him do that along with his family – then I’ve got no worries about him.”
A move to West Ham would give Dibling and advantageous environment to continue his upward trajectory. Not to mention frequent opportunities in a less intense setting than a Champions League club.

Wildcard: RB Leipzig
RB Leipzig were one of the frontrunners to sign Dibling back in January. The German side reportedly submitted a bit in the region of £25m, which was unsurprisingly rejected by Southampton.
Die Roten Bullen are looking to elevate their squad after a disappointing season which saw them miss out on European football completely. They’d view Dibling as a player who aligns perfectly with both their tactical structure and youth development strategy.
With Benjamin Sesko appearing destined to departure, and the likes of Xavi Simons, Antonio Nusa, Lois Openda and Castello Lukeba all possibly on the way out, RB Leipzig would have money to spend on Dibling.
Whether he’d be keen to venture outside of England would be the main issue. He returned to Southampton from Chelsea due to homesickness, which places doubt regarding any prospective transfer abroad. But, with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Jadon Sancho and Jamie Gittens all thriving in the Bundesliga, Dibling would have much to ponder.
RB Leipzig are known for nurturing prospects like Dani Olmo, Dayot Upamecano, Dominic Szoboszlai, Christopher Nkunku, Ibrahima Konate and Josko Gvardiol. So they would also see Dibling as a promising long-term asset with tremendous potential for growth (and resale value).
As the summer window progresses, it’s easy to see the upside attached to a deal. But at this point it’s hard to imagine Dibling heading to Germany. Even if this would be a very exciting transfer if it were to go through.
Squawka Suggests: Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest could be a particularly appealing destination. With the recent sale of Anthony Eland, Forest will no doubt be in the market for an accomplished wide player. Dibling is a terrific solution for both their style and squad needs.
Dibling has incredible prowess in one-on-one situations, a penchant for exploiting space on the break and an ability to provide a constant vertical threat. All of these things make him a brilliant fit for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, who excel on the counter and capitalise on their opponents’ weaknesses.
While the cost would pose a concern, a packing involving performance-based add-ons could help ease the financial outlay. Indeed, with Morgan Gibbs-White reportedly nearing a £60m exit, the argument for Forest signing Dibling to reinforce their attack is bolstered even further.
Dibling ranked ahead of Elanga in many important metrics per 90 minutes last season, including forward passes, through-balls, take-ons completed and duels won. Which showcases his undoubted quality, despite his tender years.
