Three goals conceded in five games has Everton unbeaten and seventh. David Moyes’ side beat Crystal Palace 2-0, drew 1-1 at Bournemouth and 2-2 with Manchester United, kept a clean sheet at Tottenham and edged Ipswich 1-0. Three clean sheets in five is the joint-best record in the division. The Squawka Score is a metric developed to assess a player’s performance relative to other players in the same position. RB: Merlin Röhl – 57% – The lowest rating in the side. Three starts at right-back have brought 12 duels won to 14 lost and no shots or goal involvements. Four tackles won and a clear-cut chance created are the positives in an otherwise quiet introduction.
RCB: James Tarkowski – 75% – The captain has been magnificent. Thirty-nine duels won to only eight lost is the best ratio of any defender in the division, and he has added 20 aerials, 23 clearances, 14 interceptions and nine tackles won, plus a goal and an assist. Every minute played.
LCB: Jarrad Branthwaite – 67% – Thirty-one clearances and 11 blocked shots, the most in the squad, from five full games, with 21 duels won to 12 lost and 30 progressive passes. A composed partner to Tarkowski, and not an error between them beyond one apiece.
LB: Vitalii Mykolenko – 65% – Eleven tackles won is the most at the club, along with 29 duels won, 18 possessions regained in his own third and 24 passes into the penalty area. A hard-working left-back doing the defensive side of the job very well indeed.
RCM: Harrison Armstrong – 57% – An assist and two clear-cut chances created from the 19-year-old, but 24 duels lost to 14 won and nine fouls in five starts show how physically demanding the step up has been. The potential is obvious; the numbers are not there yet.
LCM: James Garner – 65% – Eight tackles won and 43 passes into the final third from four starts, with four chances created and eight corners taken. Two yellow cards and an error leading to a shot are the small marks against an otherwise tidy return.
RW: Iliman Ndiaye – 69% – Five appearances but only two starts, and he has still managed an assist, four chances created and 10 touches in the opposition box. On a per-minute basis he is one of Everton’s most dangerous players, and more starts look overdue.
AM: Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – 74% – Everton’s creative engine and the second-highest rated player at the club. Eighteen shots, 11 chances created, 36 passes into the penalty area and 80 into the final third, all club-leading numbers, plus a goal and 13 corners taken. Outstanding volume from the No.10.
LW: Tyrique George – 71% – A goal, seven chances created and nine completed take-ons from four starts, with 18 touches in the opposition box. The 20-year-old has been Everton’s most direct attacking option and has not conceded a foul all season.
ST: Thierno Barry – 71% – Two goals from 17 shots and 2.65 xG, the highest expected total at the club, with 26 touches in the opposition box and 17 aerial duels won. Six big chances missed is the most of any player in the league, and Everton would be higher than seventh had he converted even half of them.
