Who could Denmark meet in the knockout rounds?
If Denmark slightly upset the odds and manage to win Group D, they’d face the runners-up of Group B which includes host nation Australia, Republic of Ireland, Canada and Nigeria. After that, it’s either the Group H winners or Group F’s runners-up, most likely to be Germany.
Should Denmark get through that, things don’t get any easier with France a potential semi-final opponent and USA likely to await in the final.

Denmark players to watch at this year’s Women’s World Cup
Denmark World Cup Golden Boot contender – Pernille Harder
Pernille Harder was injured for a lot of the 2022/23 campaign but returned at just the right time to help Chelsea win the Double, scoring five goals and recording three assists in seven games in the league and FA Cup, including setting up the winner for Sam Kerr in the FA Cup final. Despite playing just 15 matches across all competitions, only Sam Kerr (35) and Guro Reiten (32) were directly involved in more goals for Chelsea than Harder’s 16, with the Dane ending the campaign on 11 goals and five assists. It’s form that came at just the right time for Denmark too, as Harder has gained match fitness ahead of her first World Cup, finally giving the 30-year-old her moment on the biggest stage.
Denmark player to watch – Signe Bruun
Sharing the goalscoring responsibilities for Denmark this summer will be Signe Bruun, who had a decent campaign for Lyon in the French top flight, without being one of their main stars. In 18 appearances for the eventual French champions, eight of which came from the start, Bruun scored eight goals as well as two more in the Champions League. Now 25, Bruun has been linked with a move away from Lyon and while nothing materialised in January, she could also be playing for a move this summer.
Denmark emerging player to look out for – Kathrine Kuhl
Katherine Kuhl isn’t necessarily an emerging player, as she’s made almost 30 appearances for Denmark, but at 19 she is still very much one for the future and there’s a lot of room for her to grow. Spending most of her career in the Danish league so far, Kuhl made the move to England in January, joining WSL side Arsenal. A rotational player for Jonas Eidevall, Kuhl definitely showed signs of what she is capable of in England and no doubt we’ll be seeing more of her at the World Cup.
Denmark tactical analysis & formation at the World Cup
Last year, Denmark utilised a 3-4-2-1 formation to get Pernille Harder closer to the attack if she wasn’t the leading woman, but in her absence in 2023 Lars Sondergaard opted for a 4-3-3. And he’s so far stuck with that variation at the World Cup, with Harder still leading the line ahead of Signe Bruun, with Kathrine Kuhl playing a supporting role.
In the midfield, Josefine Hasbo holds firm and protects the defence while Karen Holmgaard — not to be confused with defender twin sister Sara Holmgaard — completes the pivot. At the back, Simone Boye and Stine Ballisager Pedersen are the unsurprising centre-back pairing with Everton duo Katrine Veje and Rikke Sevecke the full-backs.
