South American champions Brazil will look to win their first Women’s World Cup this summer.
Pia Sundhage’s Canarinhas won the Copa America Femenina last year after beating Colombia 1-0 in the final at the Estadio Alfonso Lopez in Bucaramanga, securing the nation a record eighth continental title in the process.
They now venture down under looking to replicate their Colombian exploits and bounce back from a recent defeat to England in the 2023 Women’s Finalissima.

Who could Brazil meet in the knockout rounds?
If Brazil top a difficult-looking Group F that also includes France, then they will face the runners-up of Group H, which contains Germany, Morocco, Colombia and South Korea. Win that and it’s the winners of Group B or the runners-up of Group D in the quarter-finals. From there, they can expect to face England in the semi-finals, or Germany if they win Group H and bypass the quarters. Then, of course, you’re looking at the reigning and record champions United States in the final.

Brazil World Cup Golden Boot contender – Andressa Alves
Marta is, of course, Brazil’s all-time top goalscorer, but just coming back from an ACL injury and now being 37 years old, it remains to be seen whether the Selecao legend can rekindle the flames of her once prolific self — who remembers her seven goals at the 2007 World Cup? In that regard, Andressa Alves could be Brazil’s most lethal force up front. She finished fifth in the 2022/23 Serie A scoring charts as Roma won the league — finishing on 12 goals, just one below team-mate and Roma’s top scorer Valentina Giacinti — and will be hoping to carry that form into the World Cup.
Brazil player to watch – Marta
However, Marta is still the pre-eminent Brazil star to keep an eye on. She embodies the panache, flair and silk of Samba football and once elicited men’s World Cup winner Gilberto Silva to remark: “It’s impossible not to admire Marta. She is inspiring all of us in Brazil and people around the world”. This will be her sixth and final World Cup, and what a career it has been.

Fans will have been looking forward to watching Nycole at this World Cup but the forward had to pull out on the eve of the tournament due to an ankle sprain, being replaced by Angelina.
