Former England striker Ian Wright has once again shown his appreciation for Tammy Abraham after his latest backheel assist in Roma’s 1-1 draw with Napoli in Serie A.
Jose Mourinho’s side have been in sensational form since the turn of the year and are currently enjoying the best unbeaten streak in Serie A, going the last 12 games without defeat, and that run was preserved in the dying embers on Monday night as Stephan El Shaarawy netted in stoppage time.
The game appeared to be getting away from the capital club but an inventive backheel from Abraham in the Napoli box just teed up substitute El Shaarawy to secure a point for Mourinho, and ensure his Giallorossi remain hot on the heels of fourth-placed Juventus, now just five points behind them.

Abraham has received widespread plaudits for leaving Stamford Bridge rather than enjoying a cushy sinecure on the sidelines with a handsome pay check, instead throwing himself into the deep end, testing his luck in a league once described by Alvaro Morata as “a university for strikers”.
His form has been such that he is currently second only to Harry Kane (20 — 12 goals, eight assists) for most direct scoring contributions of any England player across Europe’s top five leagues this season, scoring 15 (the most of any player from the nation) and providing four assists.
In homage to his latest assist, an instinctive flick in Campania, former England international Wright posted a series of complimentary emojis on social media alongside Abraham’s Twitter handle, to which the Roma man responded: “Thanks big Unc @IanWright0 ❤️”

This is not the first time Wright has lauded the 24-year-old. Only last month he was advocating for his former club Arsenal to explore the possibility of bringing the ex-Chelsea marksman back to London.
“Tammy Abraham. The king of Rome,” Wright said on his podcast Wrighty’s House.
“The way Tammy has gone over there, he’s lit it up. I couldn’t see Mourinho taking Tammy there and it working like it’s worked.
“This is where Mourinho baffles me, where he’s said ‘I’ve all people, I’m going to take Tammy. I’m going to take him to Roma and put him in this team’.
“I remember his first game. He was magnificent from the off.
“Everything that’s going on around him, it just feels like he’s that guy. We tried to get him, Arsenal, and when you look at how Arsenal play now, how Tammy is playing, you say to yourself, ‘Mikel [Arteta], you see the vision!’
“When it was happening you think, ‘Yeah, I could see it happening,’ because he ripped us to shreds (when he played for Chelsea).”
