Steve Cooper’s Nottingham Forest were a match for Liverpool at the City Ground. And not in that patronising way where the bigger side was lazy and the plucky underdogs scrapped with them.
No, Forest were a hurricane of footballing movement who played so well that Alisson and Virgil van Dijk had to genuinely play brilliantly at the back and even still Forest missed a hat-trick of golden chances in the last 20 minutes.
Ultimately when you fail to take your chance against Liverpool, you get punished. It’s not for nothing the Reds are chasing an unprecedented (for an English side) Quadruple this season.
Having already claimed the EFL Cup this season, Jurgen Klopp’s men are looking to add the FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League to that haul and mark a new level of achievement in English football.
And although Forest gave them a battering today, that incredible defence held firm and in the end it was Diogo Jota who struck to bury their hosts. A great run off the back of the defence and a neat finish to break Forest hearts and send the Reds to Wembley.
