Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has tipped 20-year-old Jacob Ramsey to break into the England squad after scoring a brace against Leeds United on Wednesday night.
The dynamic midfielder nabbed a double in a pulsating affair at Villa Park, in which the spoils were shared. Five goals were scored in the first half as Villa entered the break 3-2 up, but Leeds rallied and restored parity in a 3-3 stalemate that will live long in the memory — particularly for Ramsey.

Ezri Konsa’s late sending off would have left a sour taste in Gerrard’s mouth, but there can be no question he would have been thrilled with the performances of Ramsey and Barcelona loanee Philippe Coutinho, the latter of whom scored Villa’s opener before teeing up his team-mate for both of his goals.
Ramsey just started to emerge on the scene last campaign, in which he made six Premier League starts, and a further 16 from the bench, but he has really come to the fore this term, netting five goals — and a further assist — in 20 matches, eliciting high praise from his mentor.
“I know the level of England players, I’ve played with some of them, I’ve watched many of them for a lot of years. Jacob Ramsey is right up there, let me tell you,” Gerrard said after the match.
“I want him to make his own headlines with his football. He is a top talent, I’m loving every moment of working with him. He is getting stronger with each game because we’re giving him the platform to express himself. He is in a wonderful place.”
When quizzed on whether Ramsey will be looking to follow in his footsteps, Gerrard added: “He’s not following in anyone’s footsteps. Jacob Ramsey is Jacob Ramsey. He will be a terrific player.
“It won’t be long before the whole country is watching him I’m sure.”
