Marco Reus has revealed Borussia Dortmund’s teenage sensation Giovanni Reyna has been bestowed the rather unflattering moniker Mr. Bean by him and his teammates.
The 19-year-old has been a mainstay in the BVB first team since bursting onto the scene in 2019/20, already racking up 69 appearances in the esteemed yellow and black despite missing most of this season through injury.
Reyna started in the first three Bundesliga games of 2021/22 and even took part in Dortmund’s Super Cup defeat to Der Klassiker rivals Bayern Munich, but he has ultimately been sidelined since September with a hamstring issue.

The American international returned at the weekend to get a 29-minute run-out against Bayer Leverkusen, but he was unable to turn the tide as Marco Rose’s men suffered a comprehensive 5-2 thrashing, diminishing their slender hopes of a title challenge.
Bayern Munich saw off RB Leipzig in their Bundesliga clash to see their grip on first strengthen — now boasting a nine-point cushion at the summit — and while it may all seem doom and gloom in the Ruhr Valley, Reyna’s return was a rare mark of positivity for Rose.
Speaking ahead of his return from that rather protracted spell on the sidelines, Reus believes Reyna will be a source of inspiration on the pitch — and a source of comedic value off it.
“Mr. Bean. That’s what we call him because he – how can I put this – likes to waddle about,” Reus told the Bundesliga website.
“I hope he will have a lot more to offer us. He has been out for a really long time. It will still take a couple of weeks until he is back to his best but he offers more opportunities in deep, variation in terms of tactics.
“We hope he stays healthy and can get fit quickly. With the run of midweek games coming up, we hope he can help us move forward.”
