“I have been a fan since I was born” — Wesley Fofana names his dream clubs

Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana has listed his dream clubs, namedropping three in the Premier League.

The 20-year-old centre-back has emerged as one of the most promising defenders in the game following his rise to prominence at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes splashed £36.5m on his signature from Saint-Etienne last summer, and Fofana marked his maiden campaign in England with distinction.

The current France U21 international featured 38 times as Brendan Rodgers’ men finished fifth in the Premier League and won the FA Cup.

That 1-0 triumph over Chelsea in the final was the club’s first ever FA Cup win, and Fofana marked the occasion by keeping a lid on the European champions.

Incidentally, it is Chelsea who have been most heavily associated with Fofana’s name in recent weeks, with Thomas Tuchel thought to be an admirer.

The Blues will see the contracts of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta all expire this summer, so it is thought that a centre-back is high on the agenda when it comes to Tuchel’s shopping list in January.

Given Fofana’s continued brilliance at Leicester, and even despite the young defender currently being sidelined with a long-term leg injury, it is no wonder Chelsea are linked with him. Adding fuel to the fire, Fofana has also namedropped his rumoured admirers when asked to list his dream clubs.

In a Twitter Spaces session hosted by ActuFoot, Fofana responded when asked his dream clubs: “There is Marseille, Real Madrid, Barcelona.

“In the Premier League, Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City… but you have to work to achieve your dreams. Through work, you can succeed in it all.”

When quizzed on if, at some stage, he will play for boyhood club Marseille (where he was born), Fofana replaied: “I have been a Marseille fan since I was born.

“Marseille, it is a dream. We don’t know what is waiting for us in football.”
