Champions League 2026-27 title contenders
Barcelona. The market’s clear favourite as the league phase opens — the one club it nudges out in front of the pack.
The chasing group: PSG, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid. A cluster of Europe’s heavyweights the market can barely separate behind the favourite — any of them a credible each-way play in a competition that rarely runs to script.
Behind them the market flattens into the broad mid-tier, with the league-phase newcomers and qualifiers priced where you would expect. In a 36-team league phase, plenty of the value is in who survives to the knockouts, not just who lifts the trophy — the Signal column above flags where our model already leans for or against the market.
How the Champions League 2026-27 works
All 36 clubs sit in a single league phase and each plays eight different opponents (four home, four away). The top eight go straight to the Round of 16; clubs finishing 9th to 24th contest a two-legged knockout play-off round for the remaining eight spots, and 25th to 36th are eliminated. From the Round of 16 it is a familiar two-legged bracket through to a single-match final.
