How the Squawka Signal Golden Boot model works
The model takes each contender’s goals per game so far, regresses it towards the field to allow for a part-season sample, and projects it across his club’s remaining fixtures — scaled by how often he actually features, so a rotation option is not treated like a nailed-on starter. We then play the run-in out 50,000 times, with goals arriving at that rate but variance always in play, and count how often each player finishes top. The share he wins is his probability.
Where our number sits above the market we flag value; below it, overpriced; where they agree, fair. It is analysis, not a tip. Note we work from goals and games played rather than expected goals, which the MLS feed does not carry — a cleaner signal in a race that is, in the end, decided on goals.
