Winnipeg Jets vs Florida Panthers prediction and picks

Result: Florida Panthers 5-2 Winnipeg Jets

Anton Lundell scored three times and Florida outshot Winnipeg 38-24 to complete the home-and-home sweep. Sam Reinhart opened on the power play at 18:15 of the first, from Carter Verhaeghe and Seth Jones. Lundell made it 2-0 at 2:38 of the second, from Jones. Kyle Connor’s eleventh of the season, on the power play at 9:51, halved it, and Jones restored the two-goal lead on another Florida power play at 15:24. Morgan Barron’s first goal of the season at 8:46 of the third made it 3-2. Lundell scored at 13:33 and again into the empty net at 18:21. Jones had a goal and two assists, Reinhart a goal and an assist. Nico Daws started, not Stuart Skinner or Clay Stevenson, and stopped 33 of 37 before he was pulled with under two minutes left. Akira Schmid made 22 saves on 24. Brady Tkachuk had six shots and no point. Florida is 8-4-2 and has won three straight. Winnipeg is 4-7-3 and is now eight games without a win.

Right side, right total. We said Florida 4-2 and the over if the total sat at 6 or lower. BetMGM, Sports Interaction and Play Alberta had 6, so the condition triggered, and seven goals cleared it. PointsBet and PROLINE were at 6.5, and seven cleared that too. The side came in for the reasons given. The power play that scored three times in Winnipeg on Tuesday scored twice more, and Winnipeg’s goaltending has now given up sixteen goals in three games. Two things to own. We named Skinner and Stevenson as the Winnipeg options; Daws, who had relieved Skinner in Tampa the night before, started and was the best Jet on the ice. And our three players to watch combined for one goal and one assist, while Lundell, who was not on the page, scored three. We said the back-to-back was a small factor and did not lead with it. Winnipeg lost by three anyway, and the shot count says Florida was simply the better team, rested or not.

The preview as published before the game follows.

Florida beat Winnipeg 5-1 in Winnipeg on Tuesday, and the two meet again three nights later in Sunrise. Winnipeg played in Tampa last night and lost 6-4, a seventh game without a win. Florida hasn’t played since. Our Jets vs Panthers prediction for the return game is below, with who is missing and what the Canadian books make of it.

Winnipeg is twenty-sixth and hasn’t won since 13 October

The Jets are 4-6-3 on eleven points, with 32 goals for and 42 against. They lost 6-4 in Tampa on Thursday night after trailing 5-1, and 5-1 at home to Florida on Tuesday before that.

Seven games without a win, 0-5-2 across them. The last victory was 5-2 over Minnesota on 13 October. Every defeat in the run had been by a single goal until Tuesday; the last two have been by four and by two. The four goals in Tampa were the most they have scored since that Minnesota game.

Stuart Skinner started in Tampa, gave up five on 21 shots and sat out the third period. He is down to .899 across nine starts. Nico Daws stopped all nine he faced in relief. Clay Stevenson, who started the Florida game, is at .870. Josh Morrissey is week to week with a wrist injury and Vladislav Namestnikov is on injured reserve, both dated around 3 November.

Florida finished two points clear of Winnipeg last season and scored a quarter of a goal a game more. Winnipeg conceded less and had the worse power play by a point. The penalty kill is the wide column, 81.0 per cent against 77.6, and Florida’s power play scored three times on Winnipeg’s on Tuesday.

Florida has won two straight and the power play did the damage on Tuesday

The Panthers are 7-4-2 and thirteenth, on sixteen points with 39 goals for and 37 against. They beat Winnipeg 5-1 on Tuesday and Chicago 3-2 on Sunday, after a 4-0 defeat in Pittsburgh and a 5-1 defeat in Ottawa.

Three of the five goals in Winnipeg came on the power play. Carter Verhaeghe scored two of them and Sam Reinhart the third. Matthew Tkachuk had four assists and Seth Jones three, and Brady Tkachuk finished the scoring in the third. Verhaeghe and Brady Tkachuk have eight goals each.

Akira Schmid made 24 saves on 25 that night and is 4-2-1 at .885 across six starts. Cooper Black is the alternative, .857 from one start. Aleksander Barkov is still around four weeks away, Paul Maurice said on Thursday. Brad Marchand is out to around 21 November, Jacob Markstrom to 4 November and Jonah Gadjovich to 28 November.

Winnipeg leads the all-time series 19 wins to 16, and the gap closed by one on Tuesday. Before this week the Jets had won three of the previous five, including both one-goal games last January.

Those five produced 6, 3, 3, 9 and 5 goals, an average of 5.2. The last two meetings in Sunrise went 2-1 to Winnipeg in January and 5-0 to Florida in November 2024. Tuesday was the first time in the five that a power play decided it.

Who starts in goal is an open question. Winnipeg has split between Skinner (9 starts, .899) and Stevenson (4, .870), and Florida has split between Schmid (6 starts, .885) and Black (1, .857). A save percentage is a season aggregate rather than a lineup, so treat either name as a possibility and not a plan.

Players to watch

Carter Verhaeghe, Florida. Two power-play goals against Winnipeg on Tuesday and eight for the season.

Kyle Connor, Winnipeg. His tenth goal of the season came in Tampa on Thursday night, with an assist on the same night. Florida held him off the scoresheet on Tuesday.

Matthew Tkachuk, Florida. Four assists in Winnipeg, two of them on the power play, and the first name on Florida’s sheet while Barkov is out.

Score prediction

Florida Panthers 4-2 Winnipeg Jets. The power play that scored three times in Winnipeg on Tuesday faces the same penalty kill, and Winnipeg’s goaltending has conceded eleven goals in two games.

Jets vs Panthers prediction

Florida is the side we would take. It won the first meeting 5-1 three nights ago, its power play scored three times against this penalty kill, and Winnipeg has conceded eleven goals in its last two games.

The case for Winnipeg is the series and the scoring. The Jets lead the all-time record 19-16, won the last meeting in Sunrise 2-1 in January, and scored four in Tampa on Thursday, their best return in seventeen days. The second night of a back-to-back is a small factor and we aren’t leading with it; we have picked against a tired Winnipeg twice this season and lost both. Our lean: Florida, and the over if the total sits at 6 or lower. Winnipeg has conceded eleven in two, Florida scored five in the first meeting, and neither goaltender likely to start is above .900.

Our NHL power rankings has all 32 in order, and the rest of Friday’s games is on the NHL schedule.
