Flames vs Ducks: Prediction, Team News and Calgary’s Three Goals

Anaheim Ducks vs Calgary Flames prediction and picks

Calgary has scored six goals in four games and conceded twenty-three. No club in the league has scored fewer or let in more.

Flames vs Ducks offers the one thing that might help: an opponent playing its second game in two nights, in its second city.

Flames vs Ducks odds

Nothing was posted in Canada on 8 October. Prices go up on our NHL odds page as books release them, and the projected goaltenders are on our NHL starting goalies page.

Six goals in four games

Calgary has one goalscorer with more than one point. Joel Farabee has two assists. Matt Coronato and Morgan Frost have a goal each. That’s the scoring.

Jonathan Huberdeau went on injured reserve on Monday with a hip injury, which takes out the one forward with a track record of carrying an attack.

Connor Zary is still here. He was placed on waivers during the 0-3 start, cleared, and has played two games since. Our Connor Zary waivers piece has the background.

Dustin Wolf is 0-2-0 at .797 and Devin Cooley 0-2-0 at .818 after conceding seven in Calgary’s 7-3 defeat to Colorado on Thursday. Wolf was a Calder finalist two seasons ago and this is not the start anyone expected.

Anaheim and Calgary finished within six points of each other last season and the gap looks wider than that now.

Anaheim is good and tired

Anaheim has four forwards on two points or more. Calgary has one. Leo Carlsson is the one carrying it, and Cutter Gauthier and Jackson LaCombe are both contributing from either end of the ice.

Troy Terry is the absence. He went to long-term injured reserve on Wednesday with a hip problem, which costs Anaheim its most experienced forward.

The crease is the question here, not the skating. Lukas Dostal has taken every start and had a rough night against Edmonton, and Anaheim has to decide whether to run him again on a second night or hand Ville Husso his first start of the season.

The schedule is the thing. Anaheim plays in Winnipeg on Friday night and lands in Calgary for a 10pm Eastern start on Saturday. Second night, second city.

Players to watch

Leo Carlsson. Seven points in three games and the best player on the ice on Saturday.

Dustin Wolf. A .797 save percentage through two starts. Calgary’s season depends on that climbing fast.

Beckett Sennecke. Three goals in three games as a 20-year-old.

Connor Zary. Waived, cleared, and now playing for a place.

Score prediction

Anaheim Ducks 4-2 Calgary Flames. Calgary has scored three goals all season and Anaheim has the better forward group even on a back-to-back. The Flames need Wolf to be excellent and the Ducks to be flat.

Flames vs Ducks prediction

Anaheim is the better team and has won three of the last four meetings. Carlsson, Sennecke and Gauthier are all producing and Calgary has six goals in four games.

The one thing on Calgary’s side is the schedule. Anaheim plays in Winnipeg the night before and arrives for a late start, and tired teams do lose games in Alberta.

We should be honest that we have leaned on that argument three times in the last week and it has not come in once. It is a reason for caution rather than a reason to pick Calgary.

Our lean: Anaheim, and the under if the total sits at 6 or higher. Three of the four meetings last season were one-goal games and Calgary has scored three all season. Where both sit is on our NHL power rankings.
