The Canadian drought: 33 years since 1993
Montreal beat Los Angeles in 1993 and no Canadian team has won since. That is the single most searched fact about the Cup in this country, and the gap keeps growing. Seven Canadian teams have reached the Final in those 33 years and all seven lost.

Carolina, twice: 2006 and 2026
The Hurricanes are an unusual entry. Their first Cup, in 2006, came against Edmonton in seven games. Their second arrived two decades later behind a 37-year-old captain. Jordan Staal scored in each of the first five games of the 2026 Final, the first player to do that in 70 years, and became the oldest Conn Smythe winner in history. The franchise has now won as many championships as Florida and Los Angeles.

History is a weak predictor in a sport this random, but two patterns hold up. Repeat champions are rarer than they used to be, with Florida in 2024 and 2025 the only back-to-back winner since Tampa Bay in 2020 and 2021.
