Utah Mammoth vs Toronto Maple Leafs prediction and picks

Result: Utah Mammoth 3-2 Toronto Maple Leafs

Nick Schmaltz scored the winner on a power play with 6:48 left. Dylan Guenther had put Utah ahead with the man advantage thirteen seconds before the first intermission. Jack Roslovic equalized twice for Toronto, both times from Auston Matthews, but Andrew Peeke restored the lead in between. Clayton Keller assisted on all three Utah goals. Utah outshot the Leafs 36-29. Sebastian Cossa stopped 27 of 29 and Sergei Bobrovsky 33 of 36. Toronto is 8-7-2 and Utah is 10-6-0.

Wrong side, and the total lost too. We took Toronto at +105 partly because its penalty kill would cancel out the league’s best power play. It didn’t. Utah went 2 for 3, and the second one decided the game. Five goals also fell short of the 6.5 that Bet99, Mise-o-jeu and TonyBet all hung. The goaltending held up for Toronto. The kill was the argument, and it failed.

The preview as published before the game follows.

The best power play in the league meets the second-best penalty kill. Utah converts 34.6 per cent of its chances and Toronto kills 91.1 per cent of the ones it faces. The Leafs are home for the first time in twelve days, and Utah beat them 5-4 three weeks ago. Our pick, the team news and the early Canadian prices are below.

Mammoth vs Maple Leafs odds

Only TonyBet had posted a Canadian price when this page was built: Toronto +105, Utah −135. The wider board normally fills in during the afternoon. Check the NHL odds page for it before you bet.

Utah is eleventh and scores on a third of its power plays

Utah is 9-6-0 on eighteen points. They lost 6-3 in Philadelphia on Sunday, three nights after winning in Pittsburgh past regulation.

No club in the league converts more often, and Nick Schmaltz has five of those power-play goals himself. Logan Cooley leads the team with eight goals and Clayton Keller with eighteen points.

The trouble is at the other end. Utah’s kill sits 28th at 68.8 per cent, and neither goaltender is above .875: Karel Vejmelka is at .872 across eleven starts, Sebastian Cossa at .855 across four. Vejmelka was in net for the 6-3 loss on Sunday, the fourth time in fifteen games Utah has conceded five or more.

Last season was not close. Utah finished fourteen points clear and conceded almost three-quarters of a goal a game fewer. Toronto had the better kill by three points, which is the one part of that table that has carried over.

Toronto comes home off a 2-2 trip with nine players missing

Toronto is 8-6-2 and thirteenth. They won 4-2 in Vancouver on Saturday, with Matthews scoring his eleventh, to split a four-game western trip. Sixty goals is the fourth-highest total in the league. Scoring hasn’t been the problem.

John Tavares is on injured reserve with a lower-body injury, and Kirill Marchenko joined him on 29 October. Max Domi has no timetable after summer back surgery. Chris Tanev came off injured reserve on Saturday and played. He logged 19:21.

The kill is what has held this side together. Only one club is killing penalties at a better rate. Anthony Stolarz is 5-1-0 with a .910 and started on Saturday, while Sergei Bobrovsky is 3-5-2 at .885. Toronto is 4-3-1 at Scotiabank Arena.

Utah has only been in the league since 2024-25, so the whole series is five games. Toronto won the first three. Utah has won the last two by a combined 11-5.

Those five produced 9, 7, 8, 7 and 5 goals, an average of 7.2. Four of the five cleared 6.5, which is tonight’s number. The October game in Salt Lake City was 5-2 Utah before Tavares and Gavin McKenna made a late game of it.

Who starts in goal is an open question. Utah has split between Vejmelka (11 starts, .872) and Cossa (4, .855), and Toronto has split between Stolarz (6 starts, .910) and Bobrovsky (10, .885). Starts are earned in the week and confirmed in the morning, so read both lines as a range of outcomes rather than a selection.

Absences across the other 30 clubs are on our NHL injury report.

Players to watch

Mikhail Sergachev, Utah. Seventeen points from the blue line, and the shorthanded goal that made it 3-0 in the first meeting.

Auston Matthews, Toronto. Eleven goals in sixteen games, and he scored on the power play in the October loss in Utah.

Logan Cooley, Utah. Eight goals, the most on the team, and the assist on Vincent Trocheck’s goal in October.

Score prediction

Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 Utah Mammoth. Both of Toronto’s goaltenders have better numbers than both of Utah’s, and the Leafs are at home.

Mammoth vs Maple Leafs prediction

Toronto is the side we’d take, and the price makes it worth a look. TonyBet has Utah as the favourite at -135 with the Leafs at +105 on their own ice. We’d take that.

Our argument doesn’t depend on who starts. Stolarz is at .910 and Bobrovsky at .885; Vejmelka is at .872 and Cossa at .855. Toronto’s kill also neutralizes the one thing Utah does better than anybody.

Our lean: Toronto at plus money, and the over 6.5. Four of the five meetings went over, and both clubs are conceding more than three a game. The kill is the risk to the total, not to the side.

Where each sits against the other 30 is in the NHL power rankings, and the NHL schedule has the rest of Tuesday’s games.
