Jets Comeback: Four Goals in the Last 2:39 Stun the Canadiens in an NHL-Record Rally

Jets comeback: Winnipeg Jets beat the Montreal Canadiens 5-4 in overtime, 3 November 2026

The Jets comeback in Montréal on Tuesday, 3 November, was one the NHL had never seen. Winnipeg trailed the Canadiens 4-0 with 2:39 left in the third period, scored four goals in 2:06 to force overtime and won 5-4 on Dylan Samberg’s goal 3:30 into the extra period.

No team had started a four-goal comeback so late, according to NHL.com. The previous mark belonged to the Los Angeles Kings, who began theirs at 12:46 of the third period against Dallas on 10 November 2007 and won 6-5 in overtime. The win also ended Winnipeg’s nine-game losing streak (0-7-2).

How the Jets came back from 4-0 down

Fowler had stopped all 36 shots he faced when Tyrel Bauer, a defenceman in his 10th NHL game, scored his first NHL goal at 17:21 of the third. Morgan Barron made it 4-2 just 42 seconds later, both goals at five-on-five.

Winnipeg then pulled Stuart Skinner for an extra attacker. Kyle Connor scored six-on-five with a minute left, and when Alexandre Carrier was called for tripping at 19:25, Connor tied it on the six-on-four power play two seconds later, with 33 seconds left. In three-on-three overtime, Samberg finished it at 3:30, set up by Adam Lowry and Gabriel Vilardi.

The four goals in 2:06 were the fastest four in franchise history, NHL.com noted, beating four in 2:16 on 9 November 1984. Connor’s pair were his 12th and 13th goals of the season.

The comeback it beat

The old mark had a twist of its own. In 2007 the Kings scored five straight goals in the third period to lead Dallas 5-4, Mike Modano tied it with 1:05 left, and Anze Kopitar won it 2:34 into overtime, according to the NHL’s game records. Winnipeg’s rally started more than four minutes later in the game than that one did.

How Montréal lost a 4-0 lead

For 57 minutes it was Montréal’s night. Owen Beck and Josh Anderson scored in the first period, and Cole Caufield added two power-play goals, his ninth and 10th of the season. But Winnipeg outshot the Canadiens 47-22, and Fowler made 42 saves.

Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis summed it up after the game: “We were winning but we weren’t beating them.” It was Montréal’s first loss in six games without its captain, and the Canadiens are 5-0-1 without him. Our Nick Suzuki injury update has his latest status.

What it means for the Jets

It was Winnipeg’s first win since 13 October. The Jets are 5-8-3, and TSN’s Darren Dreger said on 3 November, before the game, that a coaching change was not on the club’s radar for now. They have played the whole season without Connor Hellebuyck, who was suspended before they traded him to New Jersey on 23 October, and our Hellebuyck trade story covers that deal.

What’s next for the Jets and Canadiens

The schedule brings two storylines to Winnipeg next. After the Canucks on Thursday, 5 November, the Jets host Nikita Kucherov and the Lightning on 8 November, his first game in Canada since his trade request, and Hellebuyck returns with the Devils on 10 November.

Montréal is 9-3-3 and hosts the Mammoth on Thursday, 5 November. The two clubs met nine days earlier at the Heritage Classic, which the Canadiens won 2-1. Our Jets and Canadiens pages have both schedules.

For bettors, a four-goal lead with under three minutes left is about as safe as an NHL game gets, and this one still slipped. Our Stanley Cup odds page has both clubs’ futures prices. Odds may change. 19+ (18+ in AB/MB/QC). Please play responsibly.
