New Orleans Pelicans odds
We’ll add Pelicans odds once we have a Canadian source for them. Until then no price appears here, because a US line can differ from what your province offers.
Ontario and Alberta license private sportsbooks. Everywhere else, betting runs through the provincial lottery platform. The list below is matched to your province, and our NBA betting hub explains the rules in each.
New Orleans Pelicans history
The franchise began in 2002-03, when George Shinn moved the Charlotte Hornets to New Orleans. They kept the Hornets name. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the team spent two seasons playing most home games in Oklahoma City. It was called the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets in that spell. Neither season ended in the playoffs.
Chris Paul, the fourth pick in 2005, was Rookie of the Year. In 2007-08 he led the team to a 56-26 record and its only division title, then took San Antonio to seven games in the second round before the Spurs won Game 7 in New Orleans. Tom Benson, owner of the NFL’s Saints, bought the club from the league in 2012. That June it drafted Anthony Davis first overall, with the pick it had won in the draft lottery a month earlier. The team became the Pelicans for the 2013-14 season.
In 2014 the Pelicans handed the records of the 1988 to 2002 Hornets back to Charlotte, which had taken the Hornets name again. That is why basketball-reference and the NBA count this franchise from 2002. Gayle Benson took over as owner after her husband’s death in 2018. Zion Williamson was the first pick in 2019. Davis left for the Lakers weeks later.
Most famous player: Anthony Davis
Anthony Davis, the first pick in 2012, played seven seasons in New Orleans before a trade to the Lakers in July 2019. He still leads the franchise in points, rebounds and blocks.
Chris Paul holds the club records for assists and steals. He was the fourth pick in 2005 and was traded to the Clippers in December 2011.
