Singleton leads the NFL in tackles: every Canadian in NFL Week 9

Alex Singleton has 101 tackles. The next man on the list has 82. That leaves the Denver
linebacker 19 clear of the field with nine games still to play, and on Sunday he lines up against
two more Canadians in Carolina. Week 9 has three games with a Canadian on both sides. Three more
share a Buffalo locker room for Monday night. There are 28 Canadians in the NFL this week.

Denver at Carolina is the one to watch

Singleton, who holds dual citizenship, leads the NFL in tackles with 101 from eight games, 49
solo and 52 assisted, with two sacks. Across from him are two more. Chuba Hubbard of Sherwood Park,
Alberta, has 118 carries for 540 yards and five touchdowns. John Metchie III of Brampton, Ontario,
has 12 catches for 114. Denver is 6-2 and ranked second on our power rankings. Carolina is 3-4 and 26th. Our
model makes the Broncos favourites by 8.3 points.

Three Bills in the Monday night game

Buffalo at Minnesota is the best fixture of the week, first-ranked against third, and Buffalo
carries three Canadians into it. Dalton Kincaid leads them. He has 27 catches for 401 yards and two
touchdowns, the most productive season of any Canadian pass-catcher in the league this year. Joshua
Palmer of Brampton has four catches for 117 and two scores, which is 29 yards a catch. Michael
Hoecht of Oakville has six tackles and half a sack off the edge.

Cincinnati at Atlanta has Canadians on both sides too

Chase Brown of London, Ontario, has 94 carries for 340 yards and 36 catches for the Bengals, who
use him as much in the passing game as on the ground. Atlanta has two of its own. Matthew Bergeron
of Victoriaville, Quebec, plays on the offensive line and Sydney Brown of London is at safety. That
puts two players from the same Ontario city on opposite sidelines.

The Chargers carry three, and one province is well represented

The Chargers host Houston with three Canadians on the roster: Akheem Mesidor of Ottawa, Deane
Leonard of Calgary and Logan Taylor of Lunenburg. One province does particularly well here. Ottawa
alone has three players in the league this week, Mesidor plus Neville Gallimore of the Bears and
Wesley Bailey of the Rams.

Who is unavailable

Three are on injured reserve, though one of them now has a route back. Arizona has designated
Isaiah Adams of Ajax to return, which clears him to practise again. Tavius Robinson with Baltimore
and David Onyemata of Winnipeg with the Jets carry no such designation. Giovanni Manu of Pitt
Meadows is not on Detroit’s active roster. Elic Ayomanor is the only Canadian idle through a bye,
with Tennessee out of Week 9, which pauses a season of 13 catches for 211 yards and a touchdown
from the Medicine Hat rookie.

Jevón Holland is quietly having the best defensive season

The Coquitlam safety has three interceptions and five passes defended in six games for the
Giants, who were on bye in Week 8 and travel to Philadelphia on Sunday. Our model cannot separate
those two. It makes the Eagles favourites by 0.1 points at a 50% win probability. Holland’s
afternoon may decide more than the ranking suggests.
