The Belarus Premier League rolls on this week, despite football being suspended just about everywhere else on the planet.
Reuters reports that the Belarus football federation has agreed broadcasting deals in 10 countries as the nation continues to gain an unprecedented level of attention from around the globe.
Ukrainian sports producer Viktor Samoilenko is quoted as saying: “We didn’t expect them to have a decent league over there. We didn’t know this before because we didn’t show the matches.”

BATE vs Torpedo BelAZ: The conquerors take on the pretenders
BATE Borisov’s 13-year stranglehold on the Belarus Premier League title ended last season when Dynamo Brest beat them to the title, but BATE are still undeniably the modern conquerors of Belarusian football.
Their quest to win back their crown, however, could have begun better. They have won two and lost two of their four opening games, winning 3-0 at Minsk last time out to ensure their poor start didn’t turn into a dreadful one.

Next up for BATE is a home game against the team currently occupying the spot they want to be in. Torpedo Bel-AZ’s impressive start has sent them straight to the top of the pile thanks to three wins from four. Even the leaders have lost one game already – remarkably no side is unbeaten just four matches into the season.
But Torpedo will be more than happy with a point against the team looking to knock the pretenders off their perch. The match is this weekend’s showpiece fixture, taking place at Sunday at 6:00 pm (UK time) after everybody else has played.
It will be interesting to see what the table looks like after this one. BATE could actually go top if they win by a big enough margin and other results go their way.
Belarus Premier League: Other games to look out for
The division’s bottom two face off as Belshina take on Smolevichy on Friday afternoon. They are the only winless sides so far, so both will likely go all out for a much-needed victory.
Meanwhile, champions Dinamo Brest – who, like BATE, haven’t made a perfect start – also have the chance to go top when they travel to sixth-placed Vitebsk.
