Heading into this latest meeting, Villarreal have won just one of their last 11 matches against Atlético in Spain’s top division (six draws and four draws), with that one win coming away from home: 2-0 in August 2022. At home, Villarreal have lost only one of their last eight games against Diego Simeone’s men in La Liga (three wins and four draws), 0-2 in February 2021 – although four of the last five have ended in draws (one loss).

Villarreal have not lost any of their last nine La Liga matches (five wins and four draws), winning their previous four. This is their longest winning streak in the competition since January 2022 and the longest current winning streak of any team in the top flight. Atléti, meanwhile, has lost its last two games in La Liga, failing to score in both. The only time they suffered three straight defeats this century without scoring in a single season in the competition was in February 2011, under Quique Sánchez Flores.
