Barcelona’s already faint title hopes were effectively ended last week when they fell to a 3-2 defeat to arch-rivals Real Madrid. The manner of the defeat was the hardest thing to take, with the Blaugrana twice taking the lead and only conceding the defining goal to Jude Bellingham in second-half stoppage time. That rounded off a miserable week in which they also lost 4-1 to PSG in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final, crashing out 6-4 on aggregate. Xavi’s men now trail Real Madrid by 14 points with 18 left to play for, while they need a positive result here to go back above Girona into second.

They’ll face a tough test against a Valencia side who, despite a 2-1 defeat at home to Real Betis last week, have improved as the season has gone on, taking seven points from three games without conceding a goal prior to that loss. Los Che are eighth in the table and still only four points adrift of the Europa Conference League spot with a game in hand. They’ll look to take advantage of any loss in confidence from Barcelona.

Scoreline prediction: Barcelona 2-1 Valencia
