Atletico Madrid vs Girona match preview

Meanwhile, after 25 unbeaten home games in La Liga between January 2023 and March 2024 (23 wins and two draws), Atléti lost their most recent home game in the competition (0-3 against Barcelona). Indeed, only once have they lost back-to-back home league games under Diego Simeone (a run of two in April-May 2013 at the Vicente Calderón).

Furthermore, the Atléti head coach has only won 33% of his meetings with Girona at the helm of Atlético Madrid in all competitions (nine matches: three wins, five draws and one loss). Indeed, only against Barcelona (14%), Real Madrid (28%) and Chelsea (29%) does the Argentinian have a lower winning percentage with the red and white side of all his opponents with at least five meetings (33% also against Bayern Munich and Juventus).

His opposite number, Girona coach Míchel Sánchez, has suffered four defeats in his six La Liga games against Atlético Madrid coach Diego Pablo Simeone (one win and one draw), more than against any other manager in the top-flight.

One name to keep an eye on for the hosts is Álvaro Morata, who has scored four goals in four games against Girona in La Liga, including one of his two hat-tricks in the competition, which came in the reverse fixture this season at Montilivi – his first came with Real Madrid against Leganés in April 2017.

Girona forward Portu has been involved in eight goals in 28 games in La Liga this season (four goals and four assists), two more than in his previous two seasons combined in the competition (one goal and five assists in 71 appearances).
