Houston Rockets odds
We don’t print a price for the Rockets here yet. No Canadian sportsbook feed covers the NBA for us, and an American number isn’t a fair guide to what you’ll see in your province.
Where you can bet depends on where you live. Ontario and Alberta have licensed private sportsbooks, and the rest of Canada bets through its provincial lottery platform. Our NBA betting hub explains each province, and the list below is matched to where you are.
Houston Rockets history
The franchise began in 1967-68 as the San Diego Rockets, an expansion team, and went 15-67 in its first season. A coin toss in 1968 gave San Diego the first pick, and it took Elvin Hayes. The team was sold in June 1971 and moved to Houston.
Moses Malone arrived in 1976. He was named MVP twice in Houston and led the Rockets to the 1981 Finals, which they lost to Boston in six games. Hakeem Olajuwon, the first pick in 1984, took them back in 1986. Boston won again.
Rudy Tomjanovich became coach midway through 1991-92. His Rockets beat the Knicks in seven games in 1994, then swept Orlando in 1995 as the West’s sixth seed, and Olajuwon was Finals MVP both times. Yao Ming and James Harden followed. Kevin Durant arrived from Phoenix in July 2025.
Most famous player: Hakeem Olajuwon
Hakeem Olajuwon holds the Rockets records for points, with 26,511, and for rebounds, steals, blocks and games. Houston drafted him first overall in 1984 and he stayed until 2001. He was MVP in 1993-94, Defensive Player of the Year twice and Finals MVP in 1994 and 1995. His No. 34 was retired on 9 November 2002.
James Harden owns the franchise marks for assists and three-pointers. He was MVP in 2017-18, when Houston won 65 games.
