Three all-Canadian games: every Canadian in NFL Week 6

Canadians in the NFL Week 6, Squawka CA

Three of this week’s games put Canadians on both sides, two fewer than Week 5, and the biggest of them has four. Twenty-three of the 28 Canadians on NFL rosters play on Sunday or Monday, Alex Singleton has already played, Chase Brown is on bye with Cincinnati, and three are unavailable.

Alex Singleton’s lead is now nine clear

Alex Singleton leads the entire league in combined tackles with 68, 31 of them solo, and Thursday night in Denver’s 17-14 win over Seattle stretched the gap. Ernest Jones IV of Seattle is next on 59. Singleton was on 47 a week ago and 33 the week before that, so the count is climbing at better than eleven a game, and he has still not recorded a sack or an interception. That is the unglamorous shape of a leading tackle number: it belongs to the linebacker who is on the field for every snap of a defence getting plenty of work.

Jevón Holland of Coquitlam shares the NFL lead in interceptions with three for the New York Giants, level with Jordan Battle of Cincinnati, Renardo Green of San Francisco, Xavier McKinney of Green Bay and Byron Murphy Jr. of Minnesota. Holland faces New Orleans on Sunday, and one of the Saints’ own Canadians lines up opposite him.

The three all-Canadian games

Bears at Falcons, Sunday 1:00 pm ET, is the one with four. Neville Gallimore of Ottawa and Theo Benedet of North Vancouver travel with Chicago to face Matthew Bergeron of Victoriaville and Sydney Brown of London, Ontario. Two Ontarians and two from opposite ends of the country, on a card where Atlanta’s Bijan Robinson leads the league in rushing.

Saints at Giants, Sunday 1:00 pm ET, has three. Nathan Shepherd of Ajax goes to New York, where Holland and Theo Johnson of Windsor are waiting. Johnson has four catches for 55 yards and a touchdown through five games, with Isaiah Likely taking most of the tight-end work since.

Cardinals at Rams, Sunday 4:05 pm ET, has two, and it should have had three. Isaiah Adams of Ajax lines up for Arizona against Wesley Bailey of Ottawa, but Alaric Jackson of Windsor is serving a suspension.

Alaric Jackson is suspended for two games

The league suspended the Rams offensive lineman on 14 October, which rules him out of this week and next. Jackson, from Windsor, had played all five games for a Los Angeles side sitting 2-3 and eighth in our power rankings, and Sportradar now lists him as suspended. Losing a lineman for a fortnight matters more than the position usually gets credit for, and it is the week’s main piece of Canadian news.

Five Canadians now have their own page

The series has grown a set of dedicated pages, each tracking a season week by week with a full game log. Chuba Hubbard is back from Carolina’s bye with 306 rushing yards at 5.0 a carry and three touchdowns from four games, comfortably the best Canadian season so far, and Carolina goes to Philadelphia. Chase Brown sits this week out on bye with Cincinnati on 246 rushing yards and 24 catches. Dalton Kincaid has 16 catches for 277 yards, Elic Ayomanor six for 130 and a score, and Theo Johnson four for 55 and a score.
