The €126m teenager
Félix exploded at Benfica, winning the Primeira Liga in 2018-19 and the 2019 Golden Boy award before Atlético Madrid paid a stunning €126m for him in 2019 — then a world-record fee for a teenager. He won La Liga with Atlético in 2020-21, but never quite justified the price tag under Diego Simeone.
A nomadic career
What followed was a well-travelled few years: loans at Chelsea and Barcelona, a permanent move back to Chelsea — where he won the 2024-25 UEFA Conference League — a loan at AC Milan, and finally a permanent switch to Al-Nassr in 2025, linking up with Cristiano Ronaldo. In all he has scored more than 70 club goals.
João Félix and Portugal
Félix has been a Portugal regular since debuting in 2019, winning the UEFA Nations League in both 2019 and 2025. A creative second striker who links play and drifts between the lines, he offers a different profile to the out-and-out forwards around him.
João Félix at the World Cup 2026
Félix has started twice in the group stage as Portugal came through their section, though he is still hunting his first goal of the tournament. Roberto Martínez’s side, featuring Bruno Fernandes and Vitinha, face Croatia in the Round of 32 as they look to go deep.
Why João Félix is a must-watch
Technically gifted and unpredictable, Félix remains one of Portugal’s most talented attackers — and a World Cup is the stage for him to remind everyone why he once commanded a nine-figure fee.
