Courtside is a social sportsbook: a free-to-play sports picks app that runs on a sweepstakes model rather than a gambling licence. That’s why it’s available in states where regulated sportsbooks aren’t. You play with two currencies, Courtside Coins for fun and Courtside Cash for sweepstakes games where prizes can be redeemed. New players can spend $10 and get 50 in Free Picks, and the same purchase also unlocks 50 in Flex Spins. This Courtside sportsbook review covers how it works, where it’s legal and what the redemption rules actually say.
Courtside Welcome Offer: Spend $10, Get 50 in Free Picks
Spend $10 or more on your first Courtside Coin package and you get 50 in Free Picks for the sports games. The same purchase also unlocks 50 in Flex Spins for the casino-style games, which is why Courtside’s download page describes the bundle as 100 in Free Play. If you’re here for the sports picks, the 50 Free Picks are the part that matters.
Courtside also publishes an official promo code, COURT, which it says always applies the best sign-up offer available.
Two things are worth knowing before you claim it. First, purchases of Courtside Coins are final, with no refunds. Second, bonus Courtside Cash can’t be redeemed straight away. Under Courtside’s Official Rules it has to be played at least once in a Courtside Cash game, on a pick with displayed odds of -300 or longer, before any winnings become eligible for redemption. Courtside can raise that to as many as 20 plays.

How the Courtside Sportsbook Works
Like most social sportsbooks, Courtside splits play across two currencies. Getting your head around the difference is the key to the whole product.
- Courtside Coins are for fun play. You can claim them for free or buy them in packages. They have no cash value and can’t be redeemed or transferred.
- Courtside Cash is the sweepstakes currency. You can’t buy it. You get it as a free bonus with certain Coin packages, through social media giveaways, or by mail. Courtside Cash won through play can be redeemed for cash prizes.
The sports side covers the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL, plus college football and basketball, soccer, boxing, MMA and esports titles such as Counter-Strike 2 and League of Legends. You choose a game, pick player or team outcomes and build an entry, then track it live as the action unfolds. Each pick carries displayed odds, which matters because of the -300 rule on bonus Cash.
The game screens will look familiar to anyone who has used a sportsbook. Each matchup shows spread, total and moneyline picks with American odds, and you can combine picks into parlays, including same-game parlays. There’s also a pick’em-style player props section, which is where Courtside leans most heavily into its social side. Coin packages run from $10 to $500.
There’s also a Courtside Cash Out feature for settling a pick early. Be aware that any Courtside Cash won through Cash Out isn’t eligible for redemption, which takes a lot of the shine off it if you’re playing for prizes.
Is the Courtside Sportsbook Legit and Legal?
Courtside is run by Courtside Games, Inc., a company based in New York. It isn’t a licensed sportsbook, and it doesn’t claim to be. Instead, it operates as a sweepstakes: no purchase is necessary to enter or win, and buying Coins doesn’t improve your chances. That structure is what lets Courtside operate in most of the country, including states where regulated online sportsbooks aren’t legal.
The free route into Courtside Cash is a mail-in request. You generate a one-time Postal Request Code in your account, write it on a 4×6 index card with your account details and a set statement, and post it to Courtside. Each valid request earns 5 Courtside Cash, up to 50 requests per monthly sweepstakes period. It’s slow and fiddly by design, but it’s there, and it’s a core part of what keeps the model legal.
Courtside’s Official Rules set the minimum age at 18. Its Terms of Use go a step further, requiring you to be 18 or the age of majority in your state, whichever is higher. In practice, that means 19 in Alabama and Nebraska and 21 in Mississippi. The Terms also include a binding arbitration clause and a class-action waiver, and the Official Rules are governed by Delaware law. None of that is unusual for a sweepstakes app, but it’s worth knowing before you sign up.
All in all, the Courtside sportsbook is legitimate. It has published rules, an identifiable company behind it and a working free entry route. Just don’t mistake it for a regulated sportsbook, because it isn’t one.
Where Is Courtside Available?
Courtside isn’t available in California. It’s also excluded in Connecticut, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Tennessee and Washington. You have to be physically located in an eligible state to use the promotional features.
That leaves 37 states plus Washington, DC, where Courtside is open to eligible players:
Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming and Washington, DC.
Redeeming Prizes on Courtside
Only Courtside Cash you’ve won through play can be redeemed, and only once it has met the play-through rules above. The minimum redemption is 50 eligible Courtside Cash, which Courtside says currently corresponds to a $50 prize. Before your first redemption, you’ll need to pass identity checks. These can include a government-issued photo ID, a biometric face scan, proof of address and validation of your Social Security number.
Redemptions aren’t quick. Courtside says processing can take up to 30 days, and prizes of $500 or more may take longer and be paid in more than one installment. It can also limit you to one redemption request every seven days and charge handling or processing fees. In Florida, redemptions are capped at $5,000 per monthly sweepstakes period, with anything above that deferred to the next month.
In practice, payouts look quicker than the rules suggest. Independent reviews report redemptions via PayPal, Venmo, debit card and bank transfer, with most landing within a day or two and bank transfers taking three to five business days. Still, the 30-day window is what Courtside commits to, so plan around that.
Beyond Sports Picks
Courtside isn’t only a sports app. The same account gives you arcade-style games, card rips and a social casino, which is where the Flex Spins in the welcome bundle come in. One caveat from the rules: Courtside Cash won on non-slot casino games such as blackjack, roulette and crash games isn’t immediately redeemable. If the casino side is what interests you, our guide to sweepstakes casinos compares the dedicated options.
Courtside Rating Breakdown
We score Courtside on a 1-10 scale, where 6 is market par for a social sportsbook and 10 is the best in the US market. These scores are based on Courtside’s published Terms and Official Rules, its App Store listing and user feedback, and independent reviews, rather than our own extended testing.
- Welcome offer value: 7/10. Spending $10 for 50 in Free Picks plus 50 in Flex Spins is solid value, but it needs a purchase, and the bonus Cash has to clear a -300 odds rule before winnings count.
- Sports coverage and pick variety: 9/10. Courtside covers the major US leagues, college sports, soccer, combat sports and esports, with spreads, totals, moneylines, parlays and player props.
- App experience: 9/10. The App Store rating sits at 4.9 from around 15,000 reviews, and independent reviewers consistently describe the app as fast and clean.
- Prize redemption: 7/10. The $50 minimum is low and PayPal and Venmo are supported. On the other hand, the rules allow up to 30 days, one request a week and possible fees, and identity checks go as far as your SSN.
- Rules transparency: 6/10. The rules are published in full, but the play-through can rise to 20 times at Courtside’s discretion. Some App Store reviews also complain about how rain delays and inactive players are settled.
- Customer support: 8/10. You get live chat, email and phone, with a human agent reportedly available within minutes. However, limits and self-exclusion still have to be requested through support.
Overall: 7.5/10, the mean of the scores above rounded to the nearest half point.
