Three days on from Peru, the United States go again in St. Louis with a squad that will look substantially different. That is the point of the window: four games in 11 days against Peru, Chile, Mexico and Canada, with Pochettino spreading minutes and finding out who can handle the step up. He has a contract through 2030 and, for the first time in a while, no tournament immediately breathing down his neck.
Chile arrive having already played Canada in Toronto on Saturday, which makes this their second game of a North American trip and their second against a co-host of a World Cup they did not qualify for. They were last of the ten CONMEBOL nations on 11 points. Whatever this window is for them, it is not a measuring stick.
Team news and talking points
Expect wholesale changes from the side that started in Orlando — Pochettino has said as much, and the schedule makes it unavoidable. Chile face the same problem in reverse, having travelled from Toronto with a squad that was already thin on established internationals. As with the other midweek fixtures in this window, the sportsbook market here is currently thin: a single book is pricing it, and those numbers were last refreshed at the start of September.
