The records match, but the routes to them do not. New England outscored everybody here and leaned on Drake Maye, while Seattle built theirs on a defense that gave up just 292 points.

Maye is not the problem. He threw for 4,394 yards and 31 touchdowns in 2025, against eight interceptions all year. Yet he threw two in February because Seattle made him hold the ball. Moreover, Devon Witherspoon and Ernest Jones IV, who set that tone, are both back.

Brown is the answer, because he should shorten the read and get the ball out faster. Still, Week 1 is the hardest week to unveil a new passing rhythm, and Lumen Field the least forgiving place to try it.
