Oilers vs Mammoth odds
Canadian books post NHL prices the night before or the morning of a game, and this one was not on the board when the page was built. The live board is on our NHL odds page, and the daily picks with prices sit on NHL predictions.
Edmonton has owned this matchup at home
These clubs have met six times since Utah’s move. Edmonton has won five. More usefully for Thursday, all three meetings at Rogers Place have gone the same way: 6-3, 7-1 and 4-1. That is seventeen goals to five on this ice.
Utah’s one win came in April, 6-5 in overtime, and it came in Salt Lake City. The away record in this series is one win from three. Edmonton at home has been a different proposition entirely.
How they compare
| 2025-26 | Utah Mammoth | Edmonton Oilers |
|---|---|---|
| Record | 43-33-6 | 41-30-11 |
| Points | 92 | 93 |
| Goals for per game | 3.27 | 3.44 |
| Goals against per game | 2.93 | 3.23 |
| Power play | 20.0% | 30.6% |
| Penalty kill | 78.1% | 77.8% |
One point separated these clubs last season. The split is clean: Edmonton had the best power play in the league at 30.6 per cent, Utah conceded half a goal less per game. Special teams against structure, and it has not changed this year.
The Oilers are winning with half a forward group
Edmonton has 29 goals in six games. Connor McDavid had a goal and three assists in Monday’s 4-1 win in Los Angeles. Leon Draisaitl and Vasily Podkolzin are both scoring. The opening-night 9-7 win in Vancouver still skews everything, but the Oilers have scored at least three in every game since.
The caveat is the goals against. Eighteen in six, and the goaltending has been the least settled part of a very settled start. Frederik Andersen, signed in July, has not played. Devon Levi conceded seven in Vancouver on opening night. Who starts is confirmed at the morning skate, and our projected NHL starting goalies page tracks it.
Utah arrives in good order
Utah is 5-2-0 and has won two in a row. It beat Toronto 5-4 on Tuesday after leading 3-0, and won 4-1 in Buffalo before that. Seven goals went in during that second period against the Maple Leafs, which tells you something about how Utah plays.
Both losses came on the road in the east, 6-1 in Boston and 4-2 to the Rangers. Utah has 27 goals in seven. This is not the team Edmonton beat 7-1.
Team news
| Club | Player | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Edmonton | Zach Hyman | Out. No date given |
| Edmonton | Ryan Nugent-Hopkins | Out, lower body. Expected to be sidelined about two weeks from the start of the season |
| Edmonton | Matt Savoie | Out, lower body, on long-term injured reserve. Expected to miss at least the first two weeks |
| Edmonton | Jake Walman | Out, upper body. No date given |
| Edmonton | Mattias Janmark | Out. Shelved until further notice after a procedure earlier in the year |
| Edmonton | Frederik Andersen | Out, knee, still rehabbing. He has not played this season |
| Edmonton | Alec Regula | Out. On long-term injured reserve, expected to miss at least nine games |
| Utah | Michael Carcone | Out, upper body. He had a goal and an assist in five games |
| Utah | Maveric Lamoureux | Out, shoulder, long term |
Seven Edmonton regulars are unavailable and the club is still unbeaten in regulation. That is the most striking thing about this start. Mathieu Joseph and Max Jones have been carrying bottom-six minutes in Janmark’s place. Utah is close to full strength. Availability across the league is on our NHL injury report.
Players to watch
Connor McDavid, Edmonton. A goal and three assists in Los Angeles on Monday. With so much of the forward group out he is taking on more, and it has not cost Edmonton a regulation defeat yet.
Dylan Guenther, Utah. He scored and assisted against Toronto. Utah’s top line has produced in both of the wins on this trip.
Vasily Podkolzin, Edmonton. Two goals in Los Angeles, five for the season. He has been the most direct beneficiary of the minutes freed up by the injuries.
Score prediction
Edmonton Oilers 5-3 Utah Mammoth. Edmonton is unbeaten in regulation and has won all three home meetings in this series comfortably. Utah scores enough to make it awkward. The margin stays at two.
Oilers vs Mammoth prediction
Edmonton should win this. It is 5-0-1, it is at home, and it has taken five of six against Utah with all three Rogers Place meetings finishing by three goals or more. Beating that record while missing seven players is the hardest thing to argue with.
The case for Utah is real enough. It is 5-2-0, it has won two in a row, and Edmonton’s goaltending remains the soft part of a hard start. Our lean: Edmonton, and the over if the total sits at 6.5 or lower. Edmonton’s games have averaged 7.8 goals and Utah’s 6.6, and neither club has shown much interest in defending. Where both sit against the other 30 is on our NHL power rankings, and the rest of Thursday is on the NHL schedule.
Puck drop is 9:00pm ET on Thursday 15 October 2026, which is 7:00pm local time at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
Five wins, no regulation defeats and one overtime loss from six games, for eleven points. The Oilers are on a five-game winning run.
Zach Hyman, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Matt Savoie, Jake Walman, Mattias Janmark, Frederik Andersen and Alec Regula are all unavailable. Nugent-Hopkins and Savoie were each given roughly a two-week timeline at the start of the season.
Edmonton, five of the six meetings since Utah’s move. All three at Rogers Place went to the Oilers by 6-3, 7-1 and 4-1.
Edmonton to win, and the over if the total sits at 6.5 or lower. Edmonton is unbeaten in regulation and has dominated this matchup at home, but neither goaltending group has been reliable.
