Maple Leafs vs Canucks odds

There was no price up yet when we wrote this. Canadian books post NHL markets close to the game, so the NHL odds page will have it before puck drop.

Vancouver is last, winless in ten, and conceding four and a half a game

The Canucks are 2-10-1 and thirty-second, on five points with a goal difference of minus twenty-three. They are 0-9-1 across their last ten and have lost the last four. Two wins in thirteen is the floor of the league.

The goals against are the whole problem. Sixty in thirteen games is 4.6 a night. No club is close. They are nearer the pace at the other end, scoring 2.8 a game, which is poor rather than the reason they are bottom of the standings.

The crease splits sharply. Kevin Lankinen is 1-7-0 with a .812 and a 6.17 goals-against average. Leevi Merilainen has a .912 across six starts. He faced thirty-four shots in Sunday’s defeat. Thatcher Demko is out until around 21 December.

Toronto finished twenty points clear of Vancouver last season and conceded a fifth of a goal a game less. The gap on the penalty kill was nearly ten points, 81.2 per cent against 71.5. A kill that leaky is the fastest way for a game like this to get away from Vancouver.

Toronto is eighth with eleven players listed

The Leafs are 7-5-2 and eighth, with fifty-two goals for and forty-six against. A four-game winning run ended 5-2 at Calgary on Monday, and across those five games it was the only one in which they conceded more than four.

Eleven players are out, the longest list in the league. John Tavares is gone until 27 November and Max Domi until 21 November. Nick Blankenburg is out to 12 November, Dakota Joshua to 8 November. Chris Tanev went to injured reserve on 25 October with an upper-body injury.

The goaltending is shared and Stolarz has the better of it: 4-1-0 at .907 across five starts, against Sergei Bobrovsky’s 3-4-2 and .897 across nine.

Vancouver leads the all-time series 91 wins to 83 and have taken three of the last five, though Toronto won both meetings last season.

Those five produced 5, 5, 3, 3 and 10 goals, an average of 5.2, and two of them were shutouts. We are discounting that history rather than leaning on it. It spans three seasons and two very different Vancouver sides. The club conceding 4.6 a game now has little to do with the one that won 2-1 in February 2025.

Who starts in goal is an open question. Toronto Maple Leafs has split between Stolarz (5 starts, .907) and Bobrovsky (9, .897), and Vancouver Canucks has split between Merilainen (6 starts, .912) and Lankinen (7, .812). Neither number is a promise about tonight, and the line moves the moment a club confirms its starter.

Players to watch

Auston Matthews, Toronto. Twenty points and sixth in the NHL, with Tavares and Domi both out of the lineup around him.

Leevi Merilainen, Vancouver. A .912 behind the worst defence in the league, and the one Vancouver number that stands up.

Anthony Stolarz, Toronto. A 4-1-0 record and a .907, clear of Bobrovsky on both counts.

Score prediction

Toronto Maple Leafs 5-3 Vancouver Canucks. Toronto scores three and a half a game and Vancouver concedes four and a half.

Maple Leafs vs Canucks prediction

Toronto is the side we would take. Vancouver is last, winless in ten, and conceding at a rate no club in the league matches. Toronto is eighth despite missing eleven players.

The case for Vancouver is Merilainen and the calendar. He is at .912 behind that defence. Toronto is deep into a western trip, and a club this far gone tends to win one it has no business winning. Our lean: Toronto, and the over. The head-to-head average of 5.2 is the one number pulling the other way. We are setting it aside. Toronto scores 3.7 a game and Vancouver concedes 4.6, and those are the live figures.

We rank all 32 each week in the NHL power rankings; the NHL schedule has the rest of Saturday’s games.
