Stake spent years as the biggest name in Canada’s unregulated betting market, with H2 Gambling Capital estimating its share at about 31% in reporting from October 2026. Alberta is the first province where it holds a licence. That move from offshore to provincial rules is what makes Stake sportsbook Alberta worth a close look, and it is also why this review is cautious: the Alberta site is only weeks old.
Alberta residents: the site footer states that Stake Canada Ltd. is licensed and regulated by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission with Registration No. 121902, and that the site is conducted and managed by the Alberta iGaming Corporation under an operating agreement. You must be 18 or older and physically present in Alberta to bet. We have reviewed the Alberta sportsbook, sport list and casino pages. The one thing Stake does not show on its public pages is the list of payment methods, so we flag it where it comes up.

Stake welcome offer for new customers in Alberta
We have not confirmed what welcome offer, if any, the Alberta site is running. If there is one, we do not publish the figures, in line with how we treat every Alberta and Ontario surface on this site.
Read the terms on Stake’s own page before you opt in. The four that usually decide whether an offer is worth taking are the minimum odds on the qualifying bet, how long any credit lasts, which sports and bet types it can be used on, and whether it pays out as cash or as bonus funds.

Stake Alberta sportsbook key features
Most of Alberta’s licensed books arrived from Ontario or the United States with a provincial playbook already written. Stake arrives from the other direction. It served Canadians from offshore for years, it was the largest operator in that market by H2 Gambling Capital’s estimate, and Alberta is where it agreed to the provincial rules first. Stake is also reported to be seeking approval to enter Ontario.
The Alberta book has been rebuilt for a Canadian audience rather than copied across. Odds are American by default, where stake.com leads with decimal. The sports home opens on Top Matches, then Top Sports (American football, basketball and ice hockey), Top Picks and Popular Events, with Live Betting, Trending and My Bets tabs across the top. Match cards show which way the money is going, such as the share of 1×2 bets on one side, and NBA games carry 46-plus markets each.
Two things set it apart from the rest of the province. The first is a public Big Bets feed, with All Bets, High Rollers and Race Leaderboard tabs, that shows what other bettors are staking on, from single moneylines to long parlays. The second is Stake’s built-in chat, which sits in the bottom bar next to the bet slip. Promotions on the sports page include an NBA halftime refund and a 90th-minute payout on soccer; we describe them by type only and do not publish the figures. For the rest of the province’s licensed field, see our guide to Alberta betting sites.
“Stake spent years as the grey market’s biggest name in Canada. Alberta is where it finally signs up to the provincial rules, and that counts for something. The Alberta book has been rebuilt for Canadians, with American odds and a Canadian-dollar account, and the crypto cashier stake.com is known for stayed behind. If you liked Stake for its markets and its feel, most of that made the trip. If you liked it for crypto, it did not.”
What can you bet on at Stake in Alberta?
Odds are shown in American format by default in Alberta. When we checked, Inter were −286 against Venezia FC at +620, with the draw at +460; odds may change. The front page lists the NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL, and soccer from Italy’s Serie A to Asian club competitions, with live matches in play.
The Alberta All Sports page lists 27 sports, set out below. That is narrower than the 40-plus on stake.com: the esports board is down to two titles and boxing is absent, but the list adds a winter-sports corner and three motorsport categories.
| Sport / market | On the Alberta book |
|---|---|
| Basketball | The NBA, with 46-plus markets on a regular-season game. |
| Football and hockey | American football and ice hockey, with the NFL and NHL listed on the sports home. |
| Soccer and baseball | Soccer from Italy’s Serie A to Asian club competitions, with live matches in play, plus MLB baseball. |
| Racquet sports | Tennis, table tennis and badminton. |
| Combat | MMA. Boxing does not appear on the Alberta sport list. |
| Motorsport | Formula 1, motorcycle racing and stock car racing. |
| Winter sports | Biathlon, cross-country skiing and ski jumping, an unusual corner of the board. |
| Esports | CS2 and League of Legends, the only two titles on the list. |
| The long tail | Cricket, rugby, Aussie Rules, volleyball, handball, water polo, darts, golf, cycling and snooker. |
Is Stake a trustworthy sportsbook?
The licensing picture is clear and published. The site footer states that Stake Canada Ltd. is licensed and regulated by the AGLC with Registration No. 121902, and that the site is conducted and managed by the Alberta iGaming Corporation, which has authorized Stake to offer its services under an operating agreement. The AGLC’s register lists Stake Canada Ltd. as an iGaming operator, with registration running to 24 September 2027, and Stake announced the licence on 6 October 2026. Stake Canada’s country manager is Kris Abbott. The parent is Easygo, and the brand, launched in 2017, already operates under regulators in Italy, Denmark, Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Argentina.
The history is worth stating plainly. Before Alberta opened, Stake served Canadian bettors from offshore under a Curacao licence, and it still does outside Ontario and Alberta. The Alberta book is a separate, provincially licensed product, so the standard provincial protections apply: age verification at 18, geolocation on every real-money session, deposit and time limits, and Alberta’s centralized self-exclusion program, which blocks every regulated site in the province at once. The footer links to ABiGaming.ca, the AGLC Self-Exclusion Program, GameSense Alberta and 211 Alberta, and it states plainly that gambling through the site from outside Alberta is a regulatory offence. Our gambling awareness page has the detail.
Stake Alberta deposit and withdrawal methods
Stake’s Alberta site says every game, deposit and withdrawal is handled in Canadian dollars. That matters more for Stake than for any other book in the province, because crypto deposits and near-instant crypto withdrawals are what the brand is known for on stake.com. In Alberta, plan on a Canadian-dollar account. Stake does not show its payment methods on the public pages, so we have not been able to list them.
Before you fund an account, check three things in the cashier: whether Interac is offered, which methods support withdrawals as well as deposits, and how long payouts take once identity verification clears. Alberta operators verify identity at sign-up rather than at first withdrawal. Our Interac guide explains how Canada’s main bank-to-bank rail works.
How to sign up and log in to Stake Alberta
- Go to ab.stake.ca, the address listed in Alberta’s directory of registered iGaming sites.
- Choose Register. You must be 18 or older and physically located in Alberta.
- Register with your legal name, email, date of birth and address. Alberta operators verify identity at sign-up, not at first withdrawal.
- Allow the location check. Geolocation confirms you are inside the province on every real-money session.
- Odds show in American format by default. Set your deposit and time limits in the account tools before you bet.
- Deposit in Canadian dollars with a method the Alberta cashier lists, and read any offer terms before you opt in.
Stake sportsbook in Alberta
Alberta’s regulated online market is overseen by the AGLC, with the Alberta iGaming Corporation acting as market manager, and it opened to private operators on 13 July 2026. Operators that had been serving the province from offshore were given a transition period, granted case by case, that ended on 13 October. Stake’s timeline ran right up to it.
Stake Canada Ltd. was registered by the AGLC in September, announced its licence on 6 October, and planned to open on 11 or 12 October, subject to an operating agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation. The brand is now listed in the province’s directory of registered sites. Single-event betting has been legal across Canada since 2021, so there is no parlay-only restriction here. If you have an existing stake.com account, treat Alberta as a separate product and check how your account is handled when you sign in.
Stake availability across Canada
Stake runs separate Canadian propositions. The AGLC-licensed Alberta site covered here is one. The offshore stake.com, licensed in Curacao, serves the rest of the country outside Ontario, and our Stake review covers that product. Stake is not available in Ontario, where it is reported to be seeking approval. Elsewhere, regulated betting runs through a provincial operator: PlayNow in British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Mise-o-jeu+ in Quebec, and the Atlantic Lottery Corporation across the Atlantic provinces. The minimum age is 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec, and 19 in most other provinces. For the national picture, see our guide to the best betting sites in Canada.
Stake casino in Alberta
Stake’s Alberta licence covers online casino as well as sports betting, and the Alberta lobby is a curated one. The site describes 100-plus casino games, set out as Slots, Live Casino, Game Shows, Only on Stake, Burst Games and New Releases. Pragmatic Play, Evolution and Hacksaw Gaming lead the publisher list, with titles from Nolimit City and NetEnt as well. The biggest change from stake.com is the in-house games: Dice, Mines and Limbo are there, but under Burst Games and credited to Hacksaw Gaming rather than presented as Stake Originals.
Live tables include Evolution and Pragmatic Play blackjack, roulette and baccarat, with Crazy Time, Ice Fishing and Gates of Olympus Roulette among the game shows. The Only on Stake shelf carries exclusives such as Wanted Salvation, Lit City and Rat Royale. The lobby also runs prize-pool promotions and a race leaderboard; we do not publish the figures. We will cover the Alberta casino in its own review. If you use both, check whether the Alberta site runs them from one balance before you assume it does.

No. The Alberta site is a separate, provincially licensed product run by Stake Canada Ltd. It uses American odds and Canadian dollars by default. The offshore stake.com, licensed in Curacao, serves the rest of Canada outside Ontario, and Stake is not licensed in Ontario.
Do not expect it. Stake’s Alberta site says every game, deposit and withdrawal is handled in Canadian dollars, so the crypto banking that defines stake.com does not carry over. Check the cashier for the methods it lists.
At the time of writing, no Alberta-specific Stake app is listed in the Canadian App Store. The Stake apps that are listed are published by Medium Rare N.V., the offshore operator, so use the mobile site in Alberta.
The Alberta All Sports page lists 27, from the NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB through soccer, tennis, cricket and MMA to biathlon, ski jumping, stock car racing and two esports titles, CS2 and League of Legends.
American odds are the default on the Alberta site, so a favourite reads as −286 and an underdog as +620. That is different from stake.com, which shows decimal odds by default.
18, which is Alberta’s statutory minimum, and the site footer states that gambling is prohibited for anyone under 18. You must also be physically present in the province when you bet.
