Colombia vs Peru: what’s at stake?
Colombia came into this window with more credit than almost anyone in CONMEBOL — a World Cup in which they topped their group and went out to Switzerland on penalties without losing in normal time. They have spent the past ten days giving some of it back: a 1-1 draw with Mexico in Baltimore, then a 0-1 defeat to Paraguay in New Jersey on Friday that was their first loss since the tournament.
Peru have had the harder tour and a longer rebuild. They did not qualify for the World Cup, finishing ninth in CONMEBOL on 12 points, and Mano Menezes has taken them through three games without a win — beaten 4-1 by the United States, held 1-1 by Mexico, then beaten 2-0 by Canada in Montréal on Saturday.
Miami closes both tours. Neither result matters beyond the information, but Colombia will want the taste of Friday gone.
