Canada get to do something no other team in this window can: come home to a crowd that watched them win a World Cup knockout tie in person. They beat South Africa 1-0 in the round of 32 before Morocco ended it 3-0 in the last 16, and while that exit was heavy, a co-host reaching the second knockout round is a tournament most Canadian supporters would have taken in advance.
Chile are in a different world entirely. They finished tenth and last in CONMEBOL qualifying on 11 points, missing a second consecutive World Cup and skipping one held on their own continent’s doorstep. The generation that won back-to-back Copa Américas is gone, and what has replaced it has not yet cohered. This is a long trip with very little attached to it.
