Sporting KC host Seattle Sounders at Sporting Park on Saturday, May 2, at 2:30 PM ET in an MLS Western Conference clash that tells two very different stories.
SKC arrive rock-bottom of the West, having lost their last five straight — conceding 18 goals in the process — while the Sounders come in unbeaten in six, sitting fourth and very much in the playoff conversation. The gap in form is as stark as any you’ll find in the division right now, and it makes this a compelling betting match even if the result itself feels somewhat inevitable.
That said, Sporting Park can be a difficult place to visit, and SKC do at least carry some attacking threat through Dejan Joveljic, who leads the team with four goals this season. Seattle travel with significant absences of their own — most notably Cristian Roldan, who has been ruled out — so the Sounders are not at full strength. Still, their recent away record suggests they won’t be troubled by the occasion. Check the MLS standings for full context on where both sides sit heading into the weekend.

Season Form & Standings
Both teams sit in the Western Conference, but at opposite ends of it. Seattle’s defensive solidity has been the foundation of their season — they’ve conceded just four goals in eight games, the best record in the West. Sporting have the second-worst goals-against in the entire league, shipping 25 in nine outings.
| Western Conference | Pos | GP | W | D | L | GF | GA | GD | Pts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seattle Sounders | 4 | 8 | 6 | 1 | 1 | 12 | 4 | +8 | 19 |
| Sporting KC | 15 | 9 | 1 | 1 | 7 | 7 | 25 | -18 | 4 |
Potential Match-Winners
- Paul Rothrock (Seattle Sounders): Three goals and three big chances created in seven appearances this season, with nine successful dribbles — he is the Sounders’ most direct attacking threat and the most likely source of the opener against a porous SKC backline.
- Jesus Ferreira (Seattle Sounders): One goal and three assists from eight games, with nine successful dribbles — provides a creative link that will be hard for SKC to contain.
- Dejan Joveljic (Sporting KC): Four goals in nine starts make him SKC’s most productive attacker and their clearest route to a goal. Eight shots on target this season — he will need service, but he is capable of a moment on his day.
- Manu Garci (Sporting KC): Seven big chances created and 12 successful dribbles in nine games — the midfielder is one of the few genuine bright spots for Sporting this season and the player most likely to unlock something if SKC are to cause an upset.
Head-to-Head
Seattle have a clear edge in recent meetings, winning the last three and 14 all-time in MLS play, compared to SKC’s 11 wins — with four draws along the way.

Recent Form
Sporting KC — L L L L L
- Apr 26: Chicago Fire 5–0 Sporting KC (Loss, away)
- Apr 18: Vancouver Whitecaps 3–0 Sporting KC (Loss, away)
- Apr 12: Sporting KC 1–3 SJ Earthquakes (Loss, home)
- Apr 4: Real Salt Lake 3–1 Sporting KC (Loss, away)
- Mar 22: Sporting KC 1–4 Colorado Rapids (Loss, home)
Five consecutive defeats, 18 goals conceded in that run. Their last victory came in mid-March in a 2–1 away win at LA Galaxy, and nothing since has suggested a turnaround is imminent. The heavy 5–0 loss at Chicago last time underlines just how vulnerable this defense remains — and they now face one of the most organised backlines in the West.
Seattle Sounders — W W W D W
- Apr 26: Seattle Sounders 2–1 FC Dallas (Win, home)
- Apr 19: Seattle Sounders 4–1 St. Louis City (Win, home)
- Apr 5: Houston Dynamo 0–1 Seattle Sounders (Win, away)
- Mar 22: Minnesota United 0–0 Seattle Sounders (Draw, away)
- Mar 15: SJ Earthquakes 0–1 Seattle Sounders (Win, away)
Unbeaten in six, with five wins and a draw. The only blip in the Sounders’ season was a 2-1 defeat against Real Salt Lake in the second game of the season. The 4–1 home win over St. Louis City in mid-April showed their attacking potential when on song, and they head to Kansas City with clear momentum. The absences of Roldan and Arriola will be felt, but the squad depth is there to absorb those losses.
Sporting KC vs Seattle Sounders Prediction
All in all, this looks like a straightforward assignment for the Sounders. SKC are in dire form, leaking goals at a rate no MLS side can sustain, and their threat in possession — while not zero thanks to Joveljic and Garcia Alonso — is nowhere near enough to unsettle a Seattle side that has conceded four goals all season. The Sounders’ defensive structure will make life difficult for SKC’s attack, and with Rothrock and Ferreira causing problems going forward, a comfortable away win is the most likely outcome. Back the Seattle away win with bet365, and consider Paul Rothrock as an anytime goalscorer to add value. For more tips across all competitions, visit our bet365 review for the latest offer.
