Result: Edmonton Oilers 4-1 Los Angeles Kings
Edmonton led 3-0 after one period and Connor McDavid had a hand in all three. He set up Leon Draisaitl and Vasily Podkolzin inside a minute of each other, then scored himself before the first intermission. Brandt Clarke replied late in the second. Podkolzin added his second with two minutes left for a goal and three assists on the night for McDavid.
Our pick: Edmonton. Correct on the winner, wrong on the over. We took the over at 6.5 or lower on two goaltending groups we did not trust, and the game produced five. Edmonton is 5-0-1 and the only reason that record is not perfect is an overtime loss.
The preview as published before the game follows.
The Kings signed Artemi Panarin in the summer and have not won a game. Edmonton has lost once, is missing five forwards and a goaltender, and has scored 22 goals.
Kings vs Oilers is one of the Pacific’s better rivalries. It arrives with one club yet to lose in regulation and the other still looking for a win.

Panarin is a King now, and Los Angeles is still winless
Artemi Panarin has three points in three games. He left the Rangers in the summer and is already level with Alex Laferriere and Erik Haula for the Kings’ scoring lead.
Everywhere else is the problem. Nine goals in three games, fifteen conceded, and no win. Darcy Kuemper is 0-2-0 at .831 and Anton Forsberg took the overtime defeat.
Kevin Fiala is on injured reserve, which removes the one forward who might take pressure off Panarin and Quinton Byfield.
The Kings made the playoffs last season on 90 points with a goal difference of minus 22 and twenty overtime losses. The underlying numbers said this was coming.

Three points separated these clubs last season and Edmonton has started far better.
Edmonton is winning with half a forward group
Connor McDavid has twelve points in four games. Evan Bouchard has eleven from defence, six of them goals, and Leon Draisaitl nine including four assists in one period in Anaheim.
Behind those three it is thin. Zach Hyman is out around two weeks, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Matt Savoie are on injured reserve, and Mattias Janmark has no timetable.
Devon Levi has won all three of his starts at .863, which is a save percentage that usually loses games. Frederik Andersen is still rehabbing a knee injury and has no return date.
Vasily Podkolzin has four goals filling in higher up the lineup than anyone planned.

Five Edmonton names and three for Los Angeles. Fiala’s absence leaves Panarin and Byfield carrying the attack on their own. League-wide availability is on our NHL injury report.
Players to watch
Connor McDavid. Twelve points in four games, and he has had three different left wingers because of who is unavailable.
Artemi Panarin. Three points in three for a club yet to win, and the Kings’ big summer signing.
Evan Bouchard. Six goals from the blue line in four games.
Darcy Kuemper. A .831 save percentage. The Kings need the goaltender who won 35 games two seasons ago.
Score prediction
Edmonton Oilers 5-2 Los Angeles Kings. Edmonton has the three best players on the ice and Los Angeles has not won a game or found a goaltender. That 1-0 result last April says this one can still go sideways.
Kings vs Oilers prediction
Edmonton should win. McDavid, Draisaitl and Bouchard have 32 points between them and Los Angeles has nine goals as a team.
The goaltending at both ends is the worry. Levi is winning at .863, which is a rate almost nobody sustains across a season.
The Kings also won 1-0 in April, so form lines hold badly here. Panarin can decide it on his own.
Our lean: Edmonton, and the over if the total sits at 6 or lower. Edmonton has scored 22 in four and Los Angeles has conceded 15 in three. Where both sit is on our NHL power rankings.
Puck drop is 10:30pm ET on Tuesday 13 October 2026 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, which is 7:30pm PT and 8:30pm MT in Edmonton.
