Jets vs Ducks: Prediction, Team News and Winnipeg’s Unbeaten Start

Anaheim Ducks vs Winnipeg Jets prediction and picks

Winnipeg is the only club in the league yet to lose in regulation. It is doing it without the goaltender who won the Vezina, and it has beaten Boston, Detroit, Pittsburgh and Colorado to get there.

Jets vs Ducks is awkward for the home team anyway. The Ducks took all three meetings last season and arrive with the best young forward group in the Pacific.

Jets vs Ducks odds

No Canadian price was up on 8 October. Prices appear on our NHL odds page as books post them, and the projected starter for each side is on our NHL starting goalies page.

Stuart Skinner has made the Hellebuyck question go away

Skinner is 2-0-1 at a .920 save percentage. He arrived from a difficult couple of seasons split between Edmonton and Pittsburgh, and he’s been the steadier half of a crease that also gave Clay Stevenson a win.

Hellebuyck has not played. Winnipeg suspended him on 17 September for failing to report after a trade request, and no end date has been set. Our Hellebuyck trade request page has the background.

Kyle Connor has five goals in four games, including both in the 3-2 win over Colorado on Wednesday. Cole Perfetti has six points. Mark Scheifele, who put up 103 points last season on a club that finished 26th, is feeding them.

Josh Morrissey is day to day. He plays 25 minutes a night and runs the first power-play unit, so Winnipeg can’t simply slot someone in.

Anaheim finished eighteen points behind Winnipeg last season and still swept the series 3-0.

Anaheim is young, fast and down a top-six forward

Troy Terry went on long-term injured reserve on Wednesday. It’s a hip problem, and Anaheim doesn’t have the veteran depth to cover for him.

Leo Carlsson has seven points in three games. Beckett Sennecke scored twice on the power play in Anaheim’s defeat to Edmonton, and Cutter Gauthier has four points. Jackson LaCombe runs the blue line.

Lukas Dostal has started all three and was pulled on Wednesday after conceding five on seventeen shots. Ville Husso finished that game and has yet to start one.

The schedule is the awkward part. Anaheim plays in Calgary on Saturday, so this is the first of two nights in two cities.

Two of the three were at Canada Life Centre and the Ducks took both. The 5-4 in February is the only one that reached nine goals.

Players to watch

Kyle Connor. Five goals in four games and the winner against Colorado with a minute left.

Leo Carlsson. Seven points in three, and the reason Anaheim is no longer a soft night for anybody.

Stuart Skinner. A .920 save percentage on a club that was supposed to collapse without its starter.

Beckett Sennecke. Three goals already, two of them on the power play in Anaheim.

Score prediction

Anaheim Ducks 2-4 Winnipeg Jets. Winnipeg has not lost in regulation and Anaheim is starting a back-to-back in a building where it has won twice. The head-to-head says be careful; everything this season says Winnipeg.

Jets vs Ducks prediction

We’ve picked against Winnipeg three times in a week, in Detroit, against Pittsburgh and against Colorado. The Jets won all three. Twice we leaned on their schedule, and they went 3-0 anyway.

So this time we are taking them. The Jets are 3-0-1, Connor is scoring, Skinner has been better than anyone expected, and Anaheim has a game in Calgary the next night.

The case against is the head-to-head, and it isn’t a small one. The Ducks swept the series last season, two of those wins in this building.

Our lean: Winnipeg, and the under if the total sits at 6 or higher. Two of the three meetings last season finished at six goals or fewer and Winnipeg has conceded ten in four. Where both sit is on our NHL power rankings.
