Stanley Cup odds 2027: favourites, prices and value

Stanley Cup odds are the longest-running bet in hockey: you back a team in September and find out in June. The 2026-27 board opened with a team that missed the playoffs as favourite. Florida finished 25th last season and were +640 at Bet99 on 30 July, ahead of the champions, Carolina, and the Presidents’ Trophy winners, Colorado. That tells you what this market prices, which is the roster in front of it rather than the table behind it. This page carries that opening board against last season’s finish, the prices of the last twelve champions before their seasons began, where the seven Canadian teams sat, and the three windows worth betting. The season started on 29 September 2026, so live prices have moved since; the board stays here as the record of how the market opened.

Stanley Cup odds 2026-27: the opening board against last season

This is the opening board: prices from Bet99, taken on 30 July 2026, two months before the season started, and they will have moved since. The third column is where each team finished in the 32-team regular-season table in 2025-26, which is the quickest way to see what the market is and is not rewarding. Check the live price with your sportsbook before you bet.

Prices from Bet99, 30 July 2026. American odds; a +640 price returns $640 in profit on a $100 stake if it wins. The sum of the implied probabilities across all 32 teams runs well above 100 per cent, so shopping between books matters more here than on a single game. The board above is the opening market. This is what the 2026-27 season has said since, rebuilt from the live standings. Carolina Hurricanes lead the league on 17 points from 11 games.

The best placed of the seven Canadian clubs is Edmonton, at number 3 in the league. Three of the seven currently sit inside the top sixteen.

Ranks move most in October and least in March. A club outside the top sixteen now is not out of the race, and stanley cup odds that have not moved since July are not necessarily wrong, but the two are worth reading together.

What the board is pricing

Carolina opened as favourites to repeat and were overtaken by Florida during July. The two-time champions of 2024 and 2025 finished 25th last season, missed the playoffs and were the shortest price in the league by the end of July, so the market was pricing their summer, not their spring. Colorado at +750 finished first overall on 121 points and lost in the playoffs anyway. Vegas at +1000 are the beaten finalists.

The mismatches run both ways. Buffalo finished fourth in the league and sit at +3000. Boston finished eighth and are +10000. Ottawa were ninth and are +3500, the same price as Toronto, who finished 28th. A futures board is a judgment about rosters, goaltending and playoff experience, and it treats a strong regular season on a young or unproven team as evidence of very little. That is where value tends to hide.

Where the seven Canadian teams sit

No Canadian team has won the Cup since Montréal in 1993, a drought covered in full on our Stanley Cup winners page. The market does not expect that to change this season. All seven clubs, with their arenas and Cup records, are on our Canadian NHL teams guide.

Edmonton’s Stanley Cup odds are the only Canadian price inside +2000, and they rest on two straight Finals rather than on last season’s 14th-place finish. Montréal’s Stanley Cup odds at +2250 are the interesting Canadian number: a sixth-place team, the Atlantic’s third seed, priced behind six clubs that finished below them. Toronto’s Stanley Cup odds at +3500 are the opposite case, a 28th-place team priced like a contender because of who is on the roster and how much money follows them.

Twelve champions and the prices they opened at

The table shows each recent champion’s own price before the regular season and again when the playoffs began, as recorded by odds-history archives. It is the single most useful thing to know before you buy a futures ticket.

2016-17Pittsburgh Penguins+1100+420
2015-16Pittsburgh Penguins+1300+650
2014-15Chicago Blackhawks+700+450

Only three of the twelve opened shorter than +850, and six opened at +1100 or longer. Florida were +2000 in September 2023 and won. Vegas were +1800. The 2019 Blues opened at +3000, were +10000 on New Year’s Day after the worst first half in the league, and lifted the Cup in June. The right-hand column shows why patience is expensive: by the time the field is set, the eventual champion has usually shortened to between +200 and +650. A ticket bought in September on the right team pays two to four times what the same team returns in April.

  • The Presidents’ Trophy is close to a curse. The team with the best regular-season record has won the Cup eight times in the 40 seasons both trophies have been awarded, and not once since Chicago in 2013. Colorado in 2026 became the thirteenth straight to fall short.
  • The East has taken seven of the last ten Cups. Only Colorado in 2022, Vegas in 2023 and St. Louis in 2019 broke the run.
  • Repeat champions happen more than the prices suggest. Pittsburgh in 2016 and 2017, Tampa Bay in 2020 and 2021 and Florida in 2024 and 2025 all defended the Cup. Carolina at +700 are priced for a real chance.
  • Beaten finalists rarely win the following year. Since 1990 only Pittsburgh in 2009 and Florida in 2024 have lost a Final and won the next one. Vegas at +1000 are betting against that record.
  • Regular-season dominance is not the signal. Twelve of the last twelve champions finished outside the top spot or won from a shorter price than the table implied. Depth, goaltending and health in April decide it.

When to bet the Stanley Cup market

There are three sensible entry points and they suit different appetites.

  1. Pre-season, summer to late September. The longest prices and the least information. This is where the +1100 to +2000 champions in the table above were bought. For 2026-27 this window closed on 29 September.
  2. American Thanksgiving, late November. The traditional checkpoint. Teams in a playoff place at that point usually stay there, and the eventual champion is often still a long way from the price they will carry in April.
  3. The trade deadline, early March. The last window before the field is set, and the moment a contender that has just added a goaltender or a top-four defenceman can still be found at a workable number.

Hedging belongs in the plan before the first bet, not after. A September ticket on a team that reaches the Final can be laid off against the opponent, or against the series price, to lock in part of the return. Our futures betting guide covers how the stake is held and how a hedge is sized.

How the Cup futures market is priced

A Cup price is the product of four playoff rounds, and each round between good teams is close to a coin flip. That compounding is why even a dominant favourite rarely opens shorter than about +550, and why the board carries a heavier margin than a single game. It also explains the shape of the results: the champion is usually a top-eight team, but which of the eight is close to random, so the money is made by holding two or three plausible contenders at long prices rather than one favourite at a short one.

Who won the 2026 Stanley Cup

Carolina, for the second time in their history, beating the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 and clinching with a 3-0 win on 14 June 2026. Jordan Staal was named playoff MVP at 37, the oldest Conn Smythe winner ever. Carolina had opened the season at +850, the shortest opening price of any champion since Colorado in 2022, and they entered the playoffs at +275 as one of the favourites. It was the rare year the market got it roughly right.

Frequently asked questions

What are Stanley Cup odds?

They are futures prices on which team will win the Stanley Cup. Each price implies a probability, and because the playoffs run four rounds, even the best team rarely opens shorter than about +550.

Who is the favourite to win the 2027 Stanley Cup?

At Bet99 on 30 July 2026, the Florida Panthers were favourites at +640, ahead of the champions Carolina at +700 and Colorado at +750. Florida missed the playoffs last season. Prices change constantly, so check the current board.

Who won the Stanley Cup in 2026?

The Carolina Hurricanes, beating the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 in the Final. The deciding game was a 3-0 win on 14 June 2026, and Jordan Staal won the Conn Smythe Trophy.

Which Canadian team has the best Stanley Cup odds?

Edmonton, at +900 on the July board, the only Canadian team inside +2000. Montreal were +2250, Ottawa and Toronto +3500, Winnipeg +20000, and Calgary and Vancouver +100000, the longest prices in the league.

Who is the biggest longshot to win the 2027 Stanley Cup?

Calgary and Vancouver, both +100000 at Bet99 in July. Vancouver finished last in the league on 58 points in 2025-26.

Does the Presidents’ Trophy winner usually win the Stanley Cup?

No. The team with the best regular-season record has won the Cup eight times in the 40 seasons both have been awarded, and not since Chicago in 2013. Colorado finished first in 2025-26 and did not win.

Can I bet on the Stanley Cup in Canada?

Yes. In Ontario and Alberta you can use private sportsbooks. Elsewhere the market is offered by the provincial lottery operator, such as PlayNow in British Columbia and Manitoba or Mise-o-jeu+ in Quebec.

When is the best time to bet Stanley Cup futures?

Pre-season prices are longest but carry the least information: six of the last twelve champions opened at +1100 or longer. Late November and the March trade deadline are the other two windows, at shorter prices.

Do Stanley Cup bets pay out if a team is eliminated?

No. An outright Cup bet loses as soon as the team is knocked out. Bettors who hold a ticket into the Final often hedge against the opponent to protect part of the return.
