From Cruz Azul to the San Siro

Giménez came through at Cruz Azul, winning the Liga MX title in 2021, before a 2022 move to Feyenoord transformed his career. He was prolific in the Netherlands — one of the Eredivisie’s most feared strikers and Feyenoord’s top scorer — winning the 2022-23 Eredivisie title and the KNVB Cup. That form earned a deadline-day move to AC Milan in early 2025 for around €32m. In all he has scored more than 90 club goals.

Son of “Chaco”

Football runs in the family: Santiago is the son of Christian “Chaco” Giménez, the Argentine-Mexican forward who was himself a Cruz Azul favourite. Nicknamed “Bebote”, Santiago has become Mexico’s premier No. 9 and one of the country’s highest-profile exports in Europe.

Santiago Giménez at the World Cup 2026

At the World Cup 2026 Giménez has been an impact option rather than a starter, coming off the bench in Mexico’s run to the last 16 with Raúl Jiménez preferred through the middle. Even in a squad role, his pedigree makes him a valuable weapon — see how the co-hosts fared in the Round-of-32 win over Ecuador and where the tournament’s scorers stand in our World Cup 2026 stats hub.

Why Santiago Giménez is one to watch

A sharp, instinctive penalty-box finisher, Giménez gives Mexico a proven goalscorer to turn to — and alongside Gilberto Mora and Jiménez, he is part of an attack the co-hosts hope can carry them deep.
