The 2026 MLS season is set to be one of the most exciting yet, especially with soccer fever hitting North America around the World Cup. As always, there will be a huge range of betting angles to explore.
Today’s MLS Betting Tips
Our MLS tips are compiled using a combination of recent performance analysis, roster strength review, injury updates, and likely tactical set-ups. We also consider schedule difficulty and, when the time comes, potential potential Playoff pathways. This method helps us identify value bets before odds shift significantly.
Outright Tips
- Inter Miami to win MLS Cup (odds TBC) – Inter Miami are the defending champions, still boasting Golden Boot holder and back-to-back MVP Lionel Messi.
- LAFC to reach the MLS Cup final (odds TBC) – LAFC reached back-to-back finals in 2022 and 2023, and have only missed the Playoffs once in their history.
- LAFC or Philadelphia Union to win Supporters’ Shield – LAFC and Philadelphia Union have each won two of the last seven Supporters’ Shield titles – awarded to the league leader after the regular season.
Who Are the Favorites for the 2026 MLS Cup?
The outright winner market is always the most popular pre-tournament bet. However, we’re still months away from the start of the 2026 season, so odds are not yet live.
There is a full winter transfer market to navigate, so rosters will change significantly in the coming months, while the World Cup is sure to have an effect, disrupting some teams and offering a much-needed break for others.
However, at this stage, it’s hard to look past Messi’s Inter Miami or Son Heung-min’s LAFC as major favorites, while the likes of FC Cincinnati, Vancouver Whitecaps, Philadelphia Union, and San Diego FC were all strong in 2025.
2026 MLS Betting Preview
30 teams will contest the 2026 season, split between 15 teams in each of the Eastern and Western Conferences. That’s just as it was in 2025, with no expansion teams coming into the league next year. Sportsbooks like Caesars, FanDuel, Fanatics, and BetRivers are often incredibly generous around big sporting events, and it’s worth considering that plenty of free bets will be on offer throughout the season.
Format: 30 teams, split into two Conferences of 15. The top seven teams in each Conference will go into Round One of the MLS Cup Playoffs, while the teams placed eighth and ninth will play each other in a wild-card round. The higher a team finishes in the regular-season, the more home advantage they’ll enjoy in the Playoffs.

2026 MLS Golden Boot: Top Goalscorer Predictions
The Golden Boot is awarded to the competition’s top scorer across the regular season, making it one of the most exciting MLS betting markets. Historically, winners tend to come from teams that finish high in the standings.
Potential contenders for 2026:
- Lionel Messi (Inter Miami) – The 2025 Golden Boot winner, Messi’s 29 goals left him five clear of any other player.
- Denis Bouanga (LAFC) – Won the 2023 Golden Boot, finished second in 2025, and is yet to score fewer than 20 goals in a full MLS regular season.
- Son Heung-min (LAFC) – Scored nine goals in his first 10 regular-season appearances after joining LAFC in August.
- Sam Surridge (Nashville SC) – Only Lionel Messi scored more goals than Sam Surridge (24) in 2025.
Golden Boot Betting Trends:
- Penalty takers are usually strong contenders, given the number of spot-kicks in modern football.
2026 MLS Regular Season Betting Tips
The fixtures for the 2026 regular season are already out, so we know how each team’s schedule looks.
The Supporters’ Shield is up for grabs in this portion of the season, awarded to the regular-season leader. This is also where awards like the Golden Boot and MVP are decided.
Here’s what to expect from regular-season betting:
- Supporters’ Shield winner: Predict which team will top the regular-season standings
- To Qualify for the Playoffs: Back a team to make the MLS Cup Playoffs through league position.
- Golden Boot: Predict the top scorer through the regular season.
- MVP and other awards: Predict who will win the MVP award after the regular-season, as well as other honors such as Goalkeeper of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.
As always, there are key factors to consider before placing a regular-season wager:
- Team strength — Teams will spend the off-season buying and selling players in the transfer market, so rosters will be significantly different when the season starts.
- Travel demands — Teams from across the United States and Canada play in MLS, placing huge travel demands on players.
- Squad rotation — MLS often plays through the international breaks, meaning a lot of players are missing during these periods. Deeper rosters also have more flexibility, but there is a salary cap and other spending rules in place.
- Scheduling — the timing of matches may affect tactics, especially for those looking to sneak into the last few Playoff spots.
- Historical patterns — powerhouses like LAFC and the Seattle Sounders have been Playoff mainstays over the years, but big contenders of the past like LA Galaxy, New England Revolution, and Toronto FC have struggled more recently.
How to Make Effective MLS Tips
To generate strong MLS tips, we use a blend of data and context:
- Tournament format & expansion – While there are no expansion teams this year, MLS has steadily grown to the point where there are now 30 teams in the league. This brings different challenges in terms of tactics, travel demands, weather, and more.
- Team form – How teams performed in the regular season and recent campaigns matters.
- Player availability & motivation – Key injuries, fatigue, travel, and motivation shift odds significantly.
- Match context – MLS is known for being a chaotic league, and that increases in the Playoffs, rather than reverting to teams playing it safe; adjusting your strategy accordingly matters.
- Key stats & xG – Using expected goals, shot volume, and defensive metrics helps isolate value bets beyond raw odds.
By applying this method, our experts identify tips that stand out in the crowded MLS betting space.
Why Bet on MLS Matches
MLS is a fast-growing league in terms of popularity, quality, and the space it holds in the global betting market. Here’s why:
- High stakes & growing interest – The audience for MLS has grown significantly over the years – especially since, but not limited to, the arrival of Lionel Messi – the odds shift fast, and every match holds drama.
- Diverse markets – From long-term futures to single-match props, the options are wide.
- Value opportunities – Underdogs, disrupted favorites and fresh team line-ups give smart bettors edges.
- Access to live betting – With multiple games per day, live markets allow reactionary plays based on how the action unfolds. MLS often plays through the international break, as well, with at least a handful of games to bring a different flavor to your accumulators.
Simply put, if you’re seeking excitement and flexibility in soccer betting, MLS is a great stage.
MLS 2026 Specials and Other Outright Markets
In addition to the outright winner and Golden Boot, several special markets add variety to MLS betting.
- MVP (Player of the Tournament) – Awarded to the best individual player; often from a team that finishes high in the regular season standings.
- Goalkeeper of the Year – Goes to the top-performing goalkeeper; penalty-saving records, saves and clean sheets are major factors.
- Young Player of the Year – Recognizes rising stars aged 22 and under. Recent winners include Ricardo Pepi and Thiago Almada – now playing for PSV and Atletico Madrid, respectively.
- Team Specials – Markets such as “To Reach MLS Cup”, “Stage of Elimination”, or “Conference Winners”.
- Competition Specials – Bets like “Top Scoring Team” or “Total Goals in Competition”.
- Regular season vs Playoffs – Teams battle it out during the regular season to reach the Playoffs and try to win the Supporters’ Shield. After that, it’s the gauntlet of the Playoffs.
These markets often offer higher-value odds and are worth exploring alongside the outright winner market.
