A record 28 Canadians opened the 2026 season on NFL rosters, and this weekend puts six of them in the same stadium. The Los Angeles Chargers travel to Buffalo on Sunday afternoon with three Canadians in their squad, to face a Bills team carrying three of their own. Nothing else on the Week 3 card comes close.
Six Canadians, one game: Chargers at Bills
Buffalo have Dalton Kincaid at tight end, Joshua Palmer of Brampton at receiver and Michael Hoecht of Oakville on the edge. The Chargers answer with Akheem Mesidor, the Ottawa pass rusher taken 22nd overall in April’s draft, Deane Leonard of Calgary in the secondary and Logan Taylor, the rookie guard from Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. All six were listed as active on the league’s roster feed this week.
Kincaid is the one having the season. He has 12 catches for 225 yards and a touchdown through two games, an average of 18.8 yards a reception that is far above anything he has managed across a full year, and Buffalo are 2-0 having scored 77 points. Palmer turned his one Week 1 catch into a 34-yard touchdown.
On the other side, Mesidor is the story worth following for its own sake. First-round Canadian pass rushers are rare, he was in the rotation from his opening game, and Sunday he lines up against an offence averaging 38.5 points a game. The Chargers are 0-2 and have been outscored by 24.
Thursday night: three Canadians, and a result nobody saw coming
The weekend started early and it started well. Matthew Bergeron, the left guard from Victoriaville, Quebec, started for Atlanta in their 35-14 win at Green Bay, a game the Falcons built on 242 rushing yards. That is the sort of night an offensive lineman takes home. Sydney Brown, the London, Ontario safety and Chase Brown’s twin, also featured.
For the third Canadian on the field it went the other way. Benjamin St-Juste of Montreal played for a Green Bay side that managed 17 rushing yards all night and fell to 1-2.
Context for how unlikely that scoreline was: Atlanta had scored 16 points in their first two games combined, fewer than any team in the league. They scored 35 in one night.
Three more all-Canadian matchups to look for
Beyond Buffalo, three more of Sunday’s games put Canadians on opposite sidelines.
Tennessee at the New York Giants is the pick of them. Elic Ayomanor of Medicine Hat, now a starter after 41 catches as a rookie, faces two Canadians in Theo Johnson, the Windsor tight end who scored five times last season, and Jevon Holland of Coquitlam, who intercepted a pass in Week 1.
Arizona at San Francisco pairs Isaiah Adams of Ajax against Kurtis Rourke of Oakville, the rarest thing on this list: a Canadian quarterback on an NFL roster. Rourke is the 49ers’ third quarterback and unlikely to take a snap, which does not make his being there any less notable north of the border.
And on Sunday night, the Rams at Denver sends Alaric Jackson and Wesley Bailey against Alex Singleton, who made 15 combined tackles in Week 1 and whose 135 last season were more than any other Canadian on this list.
The two to watch, as always
Chase Brown is at Pittsburgh on Sunday, and his workload has gone up rather than settled. Thirty-six carries in two games projects to about 306 across a season; he took 232 last year. The receiving work has thinned out, though, with eight catches for 24 yards, so the ground volume is carrying him.
Chuba Hubbard is at Cleveland with three touchdowns in two games, two of them through the air, and Carolina looking for him near the goal line in both phases. His 4.6 yards a carry is comfortably up on last season.
